Workers in Ekiti State have kicked against an alleged plan to coerce them into a public protest against President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration.

They claimed that the rally was planned to protest against the alleged stoppage of the N1.3 billion monthly Budget Support Fund (BSF) by the Federal Government with effect from December 2017.

BSF is a fund set aside by the Federal Government to assist the 36 States of the Federation in the payment of workers’ salaries.

A section of the state work force, the Enlightened Workers Forum (EWF) condemned alleged moves to drag civil servants into a public protest scheduled for Monday, January 29.

EWF in a statement on Saturday by its State Coordinator, Mr. Mike Bamidele, accused the state Trade Union Congress (TUC) Chairman, Comrade Odunayo Adesoye, of being the arrowhead of the plot to recruit and draft workers into the rally. Bamidele said workers are apolitical and non-partisan and should not be dragged into politics under whatever guise.

Responding, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Chairman in Ekiti State, Comrade Odunayo Adesoye, has denied being part of the plan to stage a rally against the alleged stoppage of Budget Support Funds (BSF) to the Ayo Fayose administration.

Adesoye who spoke in a telephone chat with The Nation, described the Enlightened Workers’ Forum (EWF) which made the allegation as a “faceless group.”

Why will they kick against it? Can't people express their opinions in peace again?

Fayose and his PDP members can go ahead and have their protest, Ekiti workers are not interested in being a part of it.

I don't like Fayose, but he has done something which no single governor has the balls to do against the marauding fulani terrorists. Ekiti workers should be grateful to him for that boldness. At least you should be alive before talking about improved conditions.

The Buhari government have done very well in terms of supporting State government's to survive in a period of extremely low revenue from crude oil. The fact that we have quickly climb out of recession and our economy is growing again even though crude oil is still selling as low as around $60 says a lot about the competency and sincerity of the managers of the economy.

If Buhari can address the Fulani herdsmen crisis dispassionately and start fighting corrupt elements in his government, his government will start enjoying public sympathy and 2019 will be a walkover. The opposition knows he's still the man to beat despite their propaganda. That is why they are more interested in getting him not to contest than to prepare a serious Challenger ahead of 2019.

Is it by force to participate in political rally? By law, civil servants are not supposed to be partisan. It will be illegal for them to participate in a political rally organised by PDP against the president. Especially, a president who has supported them in terms of budget support since 2015.

Very unfortunate, @bolded, scenario. He allowed his go-slowismtongue, to impact negatively on d govts response to d herdsmen/farmers clash. Though, I believe, his distractors, took advantage n probably, sponsored some of those attacksangry

That d herdsmen/farmers clashes, have been arnd forever, doesn't mean it should remain part of d national narrative till eternity.

As for corruption, he can't put a stop to it, but should react promptly n decisively, once any is brought to his attention!

I also believed the part in bold. Paul Unongo was sacked as chairman of Northern elders forum immediately he made the allegation that Atiku was sponsoring the Fulani herdsmen attacks. Unfortunately, Buhari is being emotional about the matter. This is the time for him to be pragmatic in his response to the crisis. When OPC was becoming a nuisance during OBJ's first term, baba rose above clannish sentiments and ordered the police to shoot OPC members at sight. The order was given on national TV. We need that kind of leadership now.

Time for the governors to answer their fathers name. Enough of this father Xmas . It breeds laziness, corruption, garrulousness and insults.
