Today is Sunday the 28th day of January 2018. So in the spirit of Haleluyah, here are 5 simple steps to purchase and ship both small, big, light or heavy consignments from any part of the world to Nigeria.

1. Know you supplier: You need to have at least a little knowledge of your supplier. It will help you avoid being scammed or being given inferior goods.

2. Request for a PFI: When you have seen what you desire to purchase from your intended supplier, request for PFI. A PFI is simply Proforma Invoice or Proforma for short.
It's not a legal document. It simply states the value of what you intend to buy, the payment terms and a break down of how your goods will be shipped.

In case of some large shipments, a contract can be converted from a PFI.

3. Raise your order: The PFI is your guideline on how to raise a purchase order. A purchase order is a legal document that empowers the supplier to supply you goods and services. Terms and conditions of business are stated in the purchase order. The shipping might be FOB, door to door, ex-works or any other method as agreed on the purchase order

4. Get the necessary documents: Well most of the necessary documents that won't delay your shipments and clearing from the port are actually raised here in Nigeria. This might include a Nafdac permit as the case maybe or other necessary and relevant documents


5. Clearing: A lot of companies do FOB. This is simply when your supplier is responsible for shipping your goods to your preferred port of destination. You will only take full responsibility when the goods arrive at maybe Tincan, Apapa port, Calabar or any other port of choice. Your agent now takes your necessary documents to customs where you pay duty which is generated from a pre-determined code.
