I want to use this thread to clarify some false notions pushed by some people on this forum. Especially when it comes to intertribal marriage and unity between groups examples igbos and yoruba marriages

1)first let's make this clear, there is no difference between people on nairaland and people on the streets that smile at you. The only difference is that nairaland gives those nice people on the street the chance to say their mind without losing friends from other tribes.

2) people always point to igbo and Yoruba marriages as sign of unity but forgetting that the Europeans had the most intertribal marriages in history but fought each other so much at the same time. Take the example of the English, French, Spanish, and Germans. The English royal family today has German ancestry yet the two nations almost wiped out each other.

3) even within interracial marriages. In the United States, there is more interracial marriages between whites and blacks in general yet they are constantly on each other's neck.

4) Japanese people are descendants of Koreans and other south East Asians. There was intermarriages between those groups for centuries yet Japan invaded and subjugated Koreans.

This whole idea that because igbos and Yorubas marry each other means that there is unity is false and has never been true throughout history. It is bound to happen anyway just because of forced in one nation but it doesn't mean anything.
Nigerians marry a lot of other Africans too especially Ghanaians.

What are you saying in essence?
Stop intertribal, interreligious marriage?, Shouldn't maintain peace with the tribes we marry from?, OR WHAT?

Not against intertribal marriages. I am against those that point to it as evidence of unity when it is not.
