An EAS system or electronic article surveillance system works with detection antennas that are installed at the exit of the store and the hard tags or labels attached to the articles sold in the store. The detection antennas constantly emit electromagnetic energy. When a customer passes these antennas with an article, a hard tag or label - if it is not deactivated - causes a short electromagnetic signal that is received by the antennas and results in an alarm.

The hard tags or labels themselves do not contain transmitters but an electric current is generated by the electromagnetic field of the antennas. Electric current is only generated during the short moment that the article is carried past the detection antennas and an electromagnetic interaction occurs between the antenna and the hard tag.

Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) systems are designed to help retailers increase their sales and profits by reducing shoplifting and increasing open merchandising opportunities. Comprised of detection systems at the checkout or exit of a store, the systems work with small electronic tags or labels that are affixed to merchandise. These tags or labels are either deactivated or removed at the point of purchase. If merchandise is removed from the store with an active label or tag still applied, an alarm will sound alerting the sales associates.

Our anti-theft shoplifting systems are designed to help retailers minimize their shoplifting losses by using a concept called Active Deterrance. Unlike other types of anti-theft devices, our EAS system provides retailers with both a visual and audible alarm when a shoplifting incident occurs. Closed Circuit televisions, mirrors and watchful employees are all passive deterrants-they do not prevent theft unless someone is visually caught in the act of stealing. Our systems are designed to immediately notify store personnel during a shoplifting event.
Items are protected with special tags which are attached to the merchandise. The tag/label is removed or deactivated by the cashier when the product is purchased. If the tag/label is not detached or deactivated the system at the exit door will sound the audible alarm alerting store staff

Distraction – moving in large groups, being boisterous, trying to overwhelm your staff with questions and requests, doing anything to attract attention
Concealment – hiding stolen merchandise in bags or under loose clothing
Packaging switch – putting more expensive items inside the packaging of cheaper items and then paying only for the latter
Price tag switch – replacing an item’s actual price tag with that of a cheaper one
Return fraud – exchanging a stolen item for a legitimate one
“Honest” mistake – paying for just a couple of items and then “forgetting” to pay for everything else
Speed – simply picking some items up and then exiting the store as fast as possible

EAS stands for electronic article surveillance. It uses a variety of tools like security tags, stickers, labels and cables that are paired with sensors that sound an alarm whenever a stolen item is taken out of the store or a tag is tampered with or forcefully removed.
