Two Christian farmers slain in Nigeria: police

(AFP) – 22 hours ago

KANO, Nigeria — Two Christian farmers were killed Monday and two others went missing in fresh attacks by suspected Muslim-Fulani nomads in Nigeria's central Plateau State, police and residents said.

The Fulani nomads allegedly attacked the farmers who were working on their farms ahead of the rainy season in Christian-dominated Riyom village, 30 kilometres (18 miles) south of Jos, capital of the volatile state.

Nigeria police step up patrols after pastor's murder

(AFP) – 2 days ago

KANO, Nigeria — Police on Sunday heightened security in a mainly Muslim state of Bauchi in northern Nigeria in the wake of the murder of a Christian pastor and his wife.

"The situation is well under control with the prompt deployment of 200 police personnel who are effectively in control of the security situation in the area while investigation into the murder is on-going," Bauchi police spokesman Mohammed Baurau told AFP.

The burnt bodies of a Pentecostal pastor, Ishaya Kadah, and his wife, Selina, were discovered on Thursday by the police in Boto village, two days after they were kidnapped.

Local residents and officials allege the couple were abducted and killed by some Muslims from the village.

Boto village is located in Bauchi's Tafawa Balewa district, which has a history of Christian-Muslim violence. It sits on the border with Plateau State, which has been rocked by sectarian violence in the last six years that has left hundreds dead

Nigerian troops foil sectarian attack

(AFP) – 1 day ago

JOS, Nigeria — The Nigerian army said Monday it had averted an attack by suspected Muslim extremists on a mainly Christian village in the flashpoint central Plateau State, killing two gunmen.

The pair were part of gang that planned to raid Bisichi village, on the outskirts of Jos, the capital of Plateau, where hundreds of people have been killed in ethno-religious violence, a military commander said.

The attack early Monday was foiled by members of a military task force deployed in the area following recent violence.

"Our guys were on regular patrol when they they received a distress call that the village was about to be attacked, so when they approached the village and in a shoot-out that followed, two of them (the gang) were gunned down," Brigadier General Donald Oji told AFP by phone.

A manhunt has been launched for the rest of the group which fled in the pre-dawn encounter

There is a major difference between the terms militant and terrorist. Both words cannot be used interchangeably.

Militant means to act like a soilder for the defence of a purpose

Terrorist means a person whose sole objective is to use the weapon of terror as a means of achieving dominace within a community.

For example the Lords Army in Uganda can be rightly referred to as a terrorist outfit.

But the Niger Delta militants cannot be called terrorist in the true sense of the word.

Agreed there are some bad eggs among them , but the true purpose of the setting up of this militancy was to resist government soilders despoiling their women, pilaging their wealth and subjugating the poor people on their own land.

SEASON 1- Hausa and Berom fighing over control of jos. SEASON 2 - Berom attacked Fulani villages of kuru karama, Gero, kuru genta killing over 150. SEASON 3- Fulani who have no interest in Jos but the fertile plain of Plateau felt provoked and declare a total war on Berom leading to the massacre in Dogo nahawa killing 109. SEASON 4- The Berom who can not match the power of Fulani divert their anger on Hausa motorist. THIS IS WAT IS GOING ON IN JOS AND THE CLEAR TRUTH

you cannot tell a terrorist what he is defending or what he is not. You cannot dictate which act of violence is right or wrong.

When the militats set off a car bomb in warri and killed a woman(who is a poor trader from the ND) - what do you call it?
Mind you they were only mad because of the comment delta state Govenor made abu mend not being real.

I have never mentioned that Hausa and Fulani people are 100% terrorist or even terrorist for that matter. The words I have utilised have been primarily non-ethnic , such as militant Islam, Jihad, Sharia etc.

It is unfair to create the impression that I blanketed the entire Hausa population as terrorist.

Bearing in mind that historically , Nazism, Communism etc were ideologies held by a few minority who more often that not held a complacent majority hostage.

This guy is just a clown. Why excuse such terrible acts just because the perpetrators are christians? The hypocrisy here is stinking and unfortunately, come people believe this is how christians behave.

This latest killing is as unfortunate as the ones before it and all those responsible are guilty of murder and killing of innocent people, simple.

Here you are again, defacing another thread without understanding the context of events.

Who is supporting the deaths of 7 Hausa men.

The comments I made were specifically in the context of, 'could it be that this was a retaliatory attack ' and then I went on to emphasize the unchristian nature of the killing , knowing that some ignoramuses might misconstrue the intent of my comments.

The killings in Jos are serious. If our leaders don't take drastic actions to halt them, the killings will sooner than later spread to all parts of Nigeria, and then, we shall say "To your tents oh Ireal" and bye bye to Nigeria.
Re: Jos On Fire! 7 Muslim Motorist Killed By Berom Militants Along Abuja Road by Nobody: 1:23am On Apr 21, 2010
I think we have been deploying soldiers and these things keep re-occuring, it is time to get more serious.

Maybe we should call a Security Sumit between the Biroms and Hausa Fulanis (With representatives from all parts of the country) to see if things like
1. resolving the Indigene/Settler dichotomy
2. abolition of state practice of religion (either directly/indirectly)
3.  repealing of state laws whose jurisdiction has been expanded beyond the original intent of customary laws as provided for in the federal constitution.
Re: Jos On Fire! 7 Muslim Motorist Killed By Berom Militants Along Abuja Road by naijamini(m): 1:23am On Apr 21, 2010
Obviously, we have moronic leaders who keep pursuing solutions that are unrelated to the problem. It is one thing to do this with economic management, but another to do so with people's lives.

Nobody seem to have been listening, since over the last few days I have been warning that this thing is going to go kaboom in all of our faces. It is not hard to see if you have your eyes peeled. There have been three incidents since the last attack, which they claimed was retaliation, in which the Fulanis were the culprits. Nigeria is about to meet its waterloo if nothing drastic is done soon. My post yesterday on this topic recommends the following seriousness-showing steps that is now even more urgent:

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-433507.0.html#msg5921135

Comment:
Forget about the governors and advisory committees - they have never worked for the people. If Ag. President Jonathan is going to show himself connected to the people these are the things he must do:

1. Get actual representatives of the warring parties, people warned they are not coming to Abuja to drink tea, but has the mandate to speak for these communities - 2 from each community no matter how small.

2. Bring them to Abuja and have an internationally televised press conference. Impress on them, get interpreters if need be, and the world of a determination to put a stop to this senselessness, whatever its cause. Let each group present their legitimate grievances in a one page readout, and let them tell us how they feel about this violence.

3. Have a conference with these representatives in the prescence of Nigerians of integrity from all over Nigeria. Let them first of all renounce violence, then present their desires for a peacelful resolution. Discuss, collect your evidence, and issue a stern warning that a state-of-emergence is coming to their villages if this nonsense doesn't stop.

4. Make decisions on the evidence before you. Divide villages into smitterens if need be, set boundaries as necessary - either for cattle rearing or agriculture. Establish a means of enforcement.

5. At any further instance of violence, declare a state of emergency. Evacuate villages on the frontlines on either side and create a separation barrier manned by military and police if need be.

Unless drastic action is taken by the FG this thing will go kaboom in everyone's faces - you can forget about 2011, 2012 or 2015!

Two corpses were recovered by the police command yesterday in Riyom local government area of Plateau State.
Plateau State Public Relations Officer ASP Muhammed Lerama who confirmed the incident said information reaching them revealed that four people went to farm yesterday morning and did not return home which prompted a search team to go looking for them. Though the PPRO said they were yet to have full details of what happened as at the time of filing this story he however said that preliminary report showed that two corpses were discovered while the remaining two were still missing.

Lerama told our reporters that further details of the incident will be made available today.

A resident of the area Mr Pam Daniel said four people were killed by some assailants suspected to be Fulani when they went to farm Monday morning.

Pam said residents became suspicious when the four people did not return from the farm towards the evening which made them to launch a search operation in the company of security men. He said it was late in the evening that the corpses of two people out of the four were discovered; the remaining two were still missing.

Meanwhile, youths in their dozens allegedly blocked Jos-Abuja road in the area harassing motorists passing through to show their grievances over the incident before they were dispersed by the Special Task Force.
