Professor Shima Gyoh, a Tiv Professor of Gyneacology from Sussex and College of Medicine BSU Makurdi wrote:

The Tiv have reared their own cattle from time immemorial, with their own specie of cow called buat-tiv. It is distinguished from Fulani cattle by having no hump on its back and its shorter legs. Incidentally, the hump (like the camel’s) is a biological adaptation for the cattle to survive for long periods without water or grass in the semi-desert environments, another proof that they and their nomads belong to the semi-desert areas of Africa such as Senegal, Mali, Niger, Chad, maybe Sokoto, Kano, Katsina, but NOT as far south as the middle belt of Nigeria. The Tiv have always believed that the beef from bua-tiv tastes better than that from the Fulani animals, which they call agundu. In those days, many Tiv refused to eat agundu beef which they regarded as inferior. Perhaps that was why they gave it the same name with the house-rat which they regarded as inedible. Ibua-tiv were raised on mixed farms. My own father had a small ranch on his mixed farm, and the agricultural department of the colonial government used to import bigger, better breed of Ndama cattle which were rented out to farmers for cross-breeding with ibua-tiv to improve the yield of beef or milk. My father used this service for beef. It died out in the family because he sent his children to school, and we did not return to the village to continue the highly labour-intensive mixed faming which the remainder of the household has avoided. Moreover, the arrival of the oil industry hit labour supply in the village very hard. Breeding a few cattle is better than raising them in large numbers because the use of land becomes steeply uneconomic.
The world is heating up because of greenhouse gases produced by burning fossil fuels in vehicles and factories. Warming up of the earth is causing polar ice caps to melt, a powerful greenhouse gas, methane, dissolved under the ice to be released, sea levels to rise, and these factors are causing the weather to change for the worse. If this is not controlled, the earth may become uninhabitable and humanity might die out. You are probably aware of the efforts being started to slow down and if possible stop the danger. In about ten years’ time, most newly produced motor vehicles will use electric power rather than burn fossil-fuel. The greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide.
It may surprise you that livestock, particularly cattle fed on foliage produce that more powerful greenhouse gas called methane; it is much stronger than carbon dioxide, and livestock belch out a whole 80 to 93 megatons of it into the atmosphere annually, constituting 18% of the world’s greenhouse gases! This problem is so serious that scientists have already found ways of producing beef through laboratory culture. Don’t worry, you will not be able to tell whether the meat in your beef burger is from cultured beef, or from agundu!
Our farmers that can afford mixed farming should immediately start it, and if you have ibua-tiv, no one can accuse you of rustling anything more than dry chiha leaves!

The length of the epistle does not still invalidate the anti open grazing movement.

Fulanis should ranch their cattle. Cattle rearing is a personal business; and it must be held and seen as such.

...and Benue Governor says to his people:

PROTECT YOURSELVES AGAINST THEM (in whichever way possible)!!!
