I am in need of a small/medium sized SUV. I have done quite a number of research on vehicles in that range and the RAV 4, CRV and the Ford Escape are topmost on my list.

The Ford Escape seems to catch me because it is cheaper compared to the CRV and the RAV 4(budget is 1.5 to 2). Speaking about it with some of my colleagues, they tend to discourage the decision to settle for the Escape, claiming the car is problematic,and that I should go for the RAV 4(that car is not cheap ó).

The question.

1. Is the 2005 Ford Escape that problematic and should be avoided?

2. What are the issues peculiar to it?

3. What other options are out there considering my budget?

Criteria that influenced my decision
1. It must be a tokunbo. Not locally used.
2. Good fuel consumption (preferably 4 cylinders)
3. Parts readily available.
