Copenhagen Business School and the Department of International Economics and Management are inviting applicants to apply for fully funded PhD scholarship within the field of International Business. The ambition of the Department is to be in the international frontline in the following research areas: to publish research results in leading international journals; to have an excellent research environment; to seek synergy between research and teaching, and to have a strong partnership with the business community.
Copenhagen Business School (CBS) is a public
university situated in Copenhagen, the capital of
Denmark. With over 21,000 students, 630 full-
time faculty members, 200 PhD and 680
administrative staff CBS is a unique business-
oriented university that offers Bachelor, Masters,
MBA/EMBA, PhD and Executive programmes
delivered in English and Danish. Academic staff
are internationally-recognised experts in classical
business disciplines as well as in philosophy,
history, psychology, sociology, law, political
science, information systems, culture and
languages.

The core research areas of the Department of
International Economics and Management are:
1. International Business 2. Emerging Markets 3.
Asia Studies and 4. Corporate Governance.

Examples of possible research areas this
specific scholarship might cover:

• Internationalization of Multinational Enterprises from Emerging Markets

• Outward Foreign Direct Investment to/ from Emerging Markets

• Offshoring and managing R&grin and
innovation in Emerging Markets

• Upgrading of Emerging Market firms in global value chains

• Technological change, industry dynamics and global interaction in Asian Markets

• Regional clusters, innovation systems, and economic development in Asia.

Scholarship Requirements
The Department will give priority to applicants
with high grades from their universities. Applicants must:

• have a minimum grade of a weighted grade point average of at least 8.2 on the Danish 7-point grading scale (Grade B/GPA 3.0) or 9 on the 13-point scale for the entire program (i.e. for both the Bachelor's and Master's studies), and at
least the grade of 10 for any final thesis or examination project.

• have basic training at the Masters level (similar to the 3 + 2 Bologna process).

• have educational background in Social
Sciences.

• have successfully completed Master’s degree before commencing PhD at CBS.
• be fluent in English
• be highly skilled in the methods that connects to the project proposal, i.e., qualitative and quantitative methods respectively. In case of the latter, CBS expect experience with a statistical
software package (such as Stata, SAS or R) and interest to apply micro-econometric estimation techniques.

Other Requirements
Application must include a 5 page project
description. This research proposal should
contain a presentation of an original research
question, a description of the initial theoretical
framework and methodology, a presentation of
the suggested empirical material as well as a
work-plan.

In addition to the research proposal, the
application must include copies of the
Bachelor degree certificate and grades as well as
Master’s degree certificate or other
certificates of a corresponding level, brief
curriculum vitae (CV), a list of papers and
publications, and one copy of a selected written
work (e.g. Master’s thesis).

General information
A PhD scholarship runs for a period of 3 years,
and includes teaching obligations equivalent of ½
year’s work (840 work hours). The scholarships
are fully salaried positions, according to the
national Danish collective agreement. The
scholarship includes the tuition fees, office
space, travel grants plus a salary, currently
starting with approximately DKK 23,770
(approximately 3,160 euro) per month up to DKK
28,964 (approximately 3,860 euro) depending on
seniority, plus a pension contribution totalling
17,1 % of 85 per cent of the base salary.

Recruitment procedure
The Recruitment Committee will shortlist
minimum two applicants; when possible five or
more applicants will be shortlisted. The
shortlisted applicants will be assessed by the
Assessment Committee. All applicants will be
notified of their status in the recruitment process
shortly after the application deadline. Shortlisted
candidates will be invited to an interview shortly
after the application deadline.

Applicants selected for assessment will be
notified about the composition of the Assessment Committee and later in the process about the result of the assessment.

Once the recruitment process is completed each
applicant will be notified of the outcome of their
application.
