There is definitely a limit to every man's level of endurance and tolerance. To my own thinking, this includes every living mortal.

For close to six years, despite the intervention of the Imo State government and the Pontiff himself, Pope Francis, the people of Ahiara Mbaise in Imo State had resisted the appointment of the Very Rev Dr Peter Okpaleke as the bishop of Ahiara diocese.

Though an Igbo man from Anambra State and a Catholic priest of Awka Diocese before his appointment, the Catholic faithfuls of Ahiara have insisted that they want a bishop of Mbaise origin.

This discrimination against a fellow Igbo man has continued to cast doubts on the sincerity of the Unity of the Igbos as a people.

Following the continued crisis, events have taken a different turn as the Pope has appointed Lucius Ugorji, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia, as the Apostolic Administrator of Ahiara Diocese.

In a statement by Rev Fr. Chris Anyanwu (dir of social communications, )at the ongoing Catholic Bishops Conferece of Nigeria , Revd Anyanwu said , “Following the resignation of Most Revd Peter Okpalaeke as the Bishop of Ahaira Diocese, as a result of the crisis that has lingered for nearly six years in that diocese, His Holiness, Pope Francis, has today appointed Most Rev Lucius Ugorji, the Bishop of Umuahia, as the Apostolic Administrator of Ahaira Diocese.” Anyanwu added that the appointment of Ugorji is with immediate effect.

As reported

Bishop Okpaleke resigns

The Catholic Bishop of Ahiara Diocese of Mbaise Region, in the Ecclesiastical Province of Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Ebere Okpaleke, has resigned as Bishop of Ahiara Diocese. The Vatican, in a short note, dated February 19, 2018, said the pontiff, Pope Francis, accepted the resignation of Bishop Okpaleke, who was appointed Chief Shepherd of Ahiara by Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI in 2012, but was never able to take full possession of the diocese for years because of protests by majority of clergy and laity, particularly because he is not from Mbaise, hence, not incardinated in the Ahiara Presbyterium, the region surrounding their diocese.

Born on the 1st day of March, I963, Bishop Okpaleke was ordained priest of Awka in August 22, 1992; appointed Bishop of Ahiara Diocese in December 7, 2012 and consecrated Bishop of Ahiara Diocese in May 21, 2013. He studied Philosophy and Theology at Bigard Memorial Seminary, Ikot Ekpene and Enugu respectively; undertook a higher studies at the Catholic Institute of West Africa (CIWA), Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and later obtained a doctorate degree in Canon Law at the Holy Cross Pontifical University, Rome.

His Holiness, Pope Francis has, pro tempore, named Bishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji of the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia, as Ahiara's temporal Apostolic Administrator till a new bishop is appointed.

There is politics in the Church.
This has nothing to do with being Igbos.

Imo State has many priests..much more than you can imagine. Many are learned to impressive degrees. Many who understand the workings of the diocese in question. Ahiara Diocese in particular has produced so many Priests from all nooks and crannies of the country, many of whom are more than capable to run the Diocese.

And the best they could do is appoint 'their boys'..the priests after their own heart..to come take this 'reward' for loyalty.

Please, give to Caesar's what is Caesar's. We are not that blind. We were united when pushing Cardinal Arinze for the papacy because he had all it takes. We can't suddenly go dumb when we have what it takes to run our affairs.

It's not a matter of creating propaganda that Mbaise people rejected priests from Mbaise recommended for bishops. We have had enough from this Nigerian government. Kindly state the Priests names.

The extreme tribalists have forced the bishop out because he is not from their village.
I wouldn't be surprised if they went as far as using jazz and juju to achieve their aim.
Shame!

Tell cardinal arinze mbaise can't be intimidated
He can do that with other places not mbaise

Call us any name you want

If you think it's OK for cardinal arinze to appoint over 5 bishop from awka with less than 500 fathers

While mabise with over 700 and over 80 waiting ordination to have non then you are worse than the devil
