I remember the bank robbery but I don't agree that the security man was a coward. He had no guns. Even a soldier would not engage without a weapon. Also, there was no how he could alert others. He had to run. His job was not to engage robbers. There were policemen attached to the bank.

As for this American case, the security officer is taking a lot of criticism not merely because he is a security officer but because he had a gun and could have engaged the gunman. If he had no weapons, I don't suppose anyone would be criticizing him.
