The Benin-Ore expressway is one of Nigeria’s most traveled roads. Daily, hundreds of thousands of Nigerians ply this economically crucial highway.

This highway primarily connects states of the South-West to states in the South-South, South-East and the Middle belt.

For decades, this stretch of road that is part of the Lagos-Benin Expressway was notorious for its atrocious condition and the neglect by successive Governments.

In 2007, on account of the disgraceful condition of this Federal road, a one-time Minister of Transportation famously wept during a visit to a failed section of the road. The Minister also apologized to Nigerians for what she then described as the “inhuman and unacceptable” state of the road.

Thankfully, intervention eventually surfaced.

In 2014, the reconstruction of the Benin-Ore section of the Lagos-Benin Expressway was completed.

See the before and after photos of the Benin-Ore Expressway below.

The big hole on the road in the first picture, though.

That is not a pothole. That is a crater.

How are we sure that is not where one of the bombs during the Nigerian civil war landed?

Nigeria.

If the essence of this post is to make us commend the government then we are sorry to disappoint you. Someone up there says that's how it is supposed to be before and I agree with him in toto.

Nope it's not! The road is a whole lot better now, very smooth drive. If you ply that road constantly and in the past, you'll be really thankful for it.
Got to a point driver got to take bush paths through villages linking the old Lagos road, just to by pass the road. Lots of armed robbery then.
I remember i spent 12hrs from Lagos to Benin in 2008 because of bad road. tongue

grin any govt that dances atilogwu because of that useless reconstruction is a bàstard govt!

Go Dubai, u go count 12 lanes for their express inter and intra city. Fully marked, consistent with global best practices. No one single pothole because the emirati family responsible for the road stands to face serious problem if the road they maintain has complain.

Nigeria, No accountability. Just pour coal tar for road, people go clap for u. please gerraout with dis Smello road! angry angry angry

Very impressive, National projects and development should not be politicised. it's matter of continuity regardless of political party involved.
Buhari keep the train moving, you're a rare gem.
