your engine cannot travel from lagos to borno (4000km) and back without needing an oil top up.

I am stating this based on your own posts.

my motorcycle in the workshop has a cleaner bill of health.

You know nothing about maintaining a modern day car.

I'm replying this because it is needed to wrap up my responses!

I drove it from Lagos to Abuja last year April let alone from Lagos to Osun state severally and it never needed engine oil top up.

I've just noticed the drop in oil level few days ago because I do check my oil level almost everyday. And it is being monitored of
which it never dropped checking it since then even today.

The shortage could have just been caused by something minor which I will tell my mechanic at Oyingbo to check and make sure
that everything that could have caused that be checked and corrected.

It is a pity and shame that a so-called god mechanic is totally writing off my car's engine for selfish motives/reasons because of its oil shortage detected for the first time in 2 years and complained. That means if I bring the car to you for such complaint; you will tell me bad things about my engine and might even tell me to change it ASAP whereas you will go and repair it and sell it out as tokunbo engine.

I must confess; I'm highly and extremely disappointed in you Mr GAZZUZZ! For this reason alone, I close and stop my submissions at this moment and please, don't forget to answer my questions especially the most sensitive ones that I've directed to you in here. Thanks! !!

You claim to know about oil shortage,
and you are do not know why your engine is shorting oil? grin

Oil does not go anywhere Oga, it's either it is leaking or it is being burnt.

for your information I am more disappointed that you are running away so soon.

You a maintenance specialist does not know why his engine is shorting oil, enough to trigger the M.I.L indicator.

You the maintenence specialist could not even scan engine to be sure what the problem was.

Now you are running off with your tail in between your legs.

I can assure you the next phase will be your engine smoking.

Why would one want to throw money away replacing engines every 2years?

Aka E-money, aka engine money grin

You do not make wealth by throwing it away every 2years.

for you to generalise all vehicle owners as being unable to source for the proper oils shows that your thinking is counter intuitive.

Smart Nigerians search for the right oils to service their cars.

Wealthy Nigerians, send their vehicles back to the dealerships (Dana motors, honda place, station motors etc..)

Adesida Olu(wa)segun Abayomi goes to mobil Petrol station, Buys the wrong oil, takes it to his uneducated mechanic who agrees that it will work on his car, changes his oil, with mineral oil and expects to get same results with what is specified in the manual.

2years later oil begins to burn, and he is proud that he has maintained his car properly.

people who are insecure make a lot of noise about who they are and how they made their money.

Stick to the facts.

You poured the wrong oil into an engine.

And you will have to bear the consequences.

Does this have anything to do with engine oil change? Or reading a manual? Or being proactive and resourceful when searching for parts for your vehicle?

This is typical African mentality the "do you know who I am crap"

it does not work with me.

My toks Honda EOD 05 never short oil till I will service and change it oil after covering 5000 miles for 2 years.

I just started noticing short of oil recently which do trigger check engine to show up and then go after a while. Upon topping it up with 1 litre of Mobil XHP which is the oil that I normally use, the check engine turned off itself and it never came back again.

Low oil level could trigger check engine in some cars! !!

But wait o!

In your mind 5000miles (7500km) on a gallon of XHP 20w50 is normal.

how can you? How?

You and your mechanic should be flogged publicly.

Hello Sir,

Pls i need your opinion on this.

I bought a nig used 03 Camry XLE just a month ago from someone who wants to relocate to the state.(He's gone now)
I know the owner, i know hes relocating, i knew when he bought the car as tokunbo (May 2016), he has a fairly good maintenance culture, he does not even have a mechanic of his own, car was neat and i did not bother to call a mechanic for inspection (God forgive me). The car was bought in May 2016 as evident from all document. This has been established. Mileage is 245,000 (that was my ONLY concern) when he sold it to me.
I notice a service sticker on the windscreen of the car that shows, perhaps , the last time it was service in New york b4 it was brought into Nig. The mileage on that sticker was 222,400 and date was Nov 2015. I bought the car from the direct owner and i observed he's been using Oando Engine oil 20W-50 to service the car. My route is Magodo-VI (mon-fri) and for a month i have a smooth ride with the car. As at today, I have not spent a kobo on it except for fuel.I have read alot on NL about the right engine oil and i know this oil no be the correct one. 1 want to service the car by end of this month.
I spoke to the former owner about the oil and he said that was what a mechanic recommend when he bought the car in May 2016. He does not even have a personal mechanic because car has been good without any issue since. Car is very neat up till now. My concern is this, would you recommend i switch to the recommended/synthetic oil, or i should jejely continue with what this guy has been using. Some tech guys on NL says car could start shortening oil, leaking if i change oiletc. Pls what do u recommend Sir. I dont want to mess up this car.

Read through this thread, I am sure you will find answers.

he knows that engine has been abused, he has done research, and wants to know the right path to follow so it does not degenerate further.

I spoke to the former owner about the oil and he said that was what a mechanic recommend

The cause of the problem, an uninformed mechanic just like you and yours

when he bought the car in May 2016. He does not even have a personal mechanic because car has been good without any issue since. Car is very neat up till now. My concern is this, would you recommend i switch to the recommended/synthetic oil, or i should jejely continue with what this guy has been using

The smart ones are not proud, they just ask simple harmless questions they do not live in denial.
.

Some tech guys on NL says car could start shortening oil, leaking if i change oiletc.

to an extent this is correct.

Pls what do u recommend Sir. I dont want to mess up this car

I will now respond to him on the thread where this query originally came from.
