Just as Lagos state government has made it a law for everyone to get credit on it before getting admission in Lagos state.

So what happens when other states makes it compulsory for ONLY Yorubas to know their local language before getting admission into their own school!

Let's even ask a reasonable questions; what is the importance of this law. How will it move Nigeria to better position in the world?

Is Yoruba language and culture so important?

Let's play small : was it even featured in black panther cool

This is the problem with leadership Nigeria, we always think backward instead of forward. Always making decisions based on parochial sentiments instead of looking at the bigger picture. This country is doomed because we don't have any future with the kind of Myopic leadership we have at all levels

It is not by force to learn an indigenous language, especially for non indigenes. As far as I am concerned, there are only two official languages in Nigeria: English and French.

Every state in Nigeria has varying proportions of Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and other tribes. But that doesn't rule out the fact that the state belongs to only one particular tribe.

In the case of Lagos, it's a Yoruba state. Take it or leave it. And the state government is free to enact any law in the interest of its native language.

To whoever is embittered by the laws, it's not a must to study in Lagos state. If all other states do the same, there's nothing wrong in that. In fact, most states have always been doing things that favor their own indigenes and tribes for decades. It's only the approaches that vary.

What other state have put this kind of law that intends to isolate others from their schools?

It doesn't have to be about schools. In some states, someone from another tribe cannot reach some advanced levels in their civil service. In some state-owned universities non-indigenes are made to pay as much as double of what indigenes pay, and are required to score significantly higher than indigenes in order to gain admissions. In some states, people from other tribes are not allowed to run for political posts or get political appointments. So, favoritism based on tribe, language, or origin isn't new in this country.

So, nobody should crucify Lagos for this, which is even subtle compared to some other little-known rules in other states. And interestingly, there is an Igbo lawmaker in Lagos, and there is another Igbo special adviser to the governor. How many Igbo states have allowed/ can allow a Yoruba or Hause lawmaker or special adviser?

I'm not a Lagosian, and I'm not totally in support of this new criterion. But the truth is, all states, tribes and religions in this country flex their political muscles against others in different ways. So, no one is truly innocent.

You don't have to insult me for answering a very straightforward question. It reflects poorly on your reasoning ability.
My parents started reading Yoruba books to me when l was very young. That was before I could read them myself, that action sparked my interest in reading that it is still with me today.
You should start by reading Ibo language to your children as well. But if Yoruba is already their first language as you probably live somewhere in Yorubaland, you should start by reading Yoruba books to them too. It works.

Go to your own state and let your own lawmakers enact a similar law. You don't need to burst your veins because of some laws made by another state.

Lagos was developed with our commonweath as a capital before moving it to Abuja, Yoruba didn't develop lagos alone we should stop being sentimental on issues like this how on earth can such law be implemented in a country like that. South Africa have 9 ethnic groups and two ethnic recognise language like Nigeria that have 3 and irrespective of what ethnic group you belong to you have to choose between the two, Switzerland have 3 tribes but no tribe make their language compulsory as long as Nigeria is one country and have three recognise language is very bad law because it doesn't show oneness as a country such law will divid Nigeria if adopt in other parts of Nigeria.

The south west has done well

Each region should emulate this
Each region should go and manage their own resources

It's good to witness any thing that will disintegrate the country...

Lagos and every other parts was developed with our common wealth... all Lagosian is saying is that u should stop running down south cos of cheap and quality education, Lagos has been paying most of all students coming from the east school fees and Exam fees including Neco and Waec and can decide to do and undo. meanwhile those countries u comparing us with, their tribe knows their bounds and they are not claiming what doesnt belongs to them..

But have you ever witnessed any Yoruba challenging bad policy in any part of the country or the world at large. you should learn to adapt with what ever laws that binds you in a foreign land if you are not comfortable with it you can port easily no one is holding ur a.s.s down to a place...
