PDP Chieftains laud Ikpeazu's infrastructural development

Prominent chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State have lauded various infrastructural developments currently going on across the three senatorial districts in the state, stating that they will culminate in its transformation.

Speaking in Umuahia, the state capital, a two-time Treasurer of the party in the state, Hon. Sunday Ugwa, who was a member of the state House of Assembly Representing Bende North State Constituency, said several roads, drainages and schools have either been completed or their construction is underway in the state.

Recall that National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, Prof Anya O. Anya, Col. Austin Akobundu, (rtd) National Vice Chairman of the PDP, Chief Austin Umahi, gave similar commendation during a visit to the state recently.

Prince Secondus commended the governor for performing beyond expectation and giving dividends of democracy to his people. “My surprise is that Abia is one of the states that receive the least allocation but the number of projects I have seen today is overwhelming which means that the governor is working and he has performed very well.”

But in a chat in Umuahia, Ugwa said: “Truth be told, Abia State is a commercial state, because even as an oil-producing state, our revenue from oil is very minimal, but I am bold to say that Governor Ikpeazu has been able to bring dividends of democracy to the people and when you talk about commerce, you talk about Aba, and its roads have been in deplorable condition but the governor has risen to the situation.

“What the governor has done in Aba is very marvelous. Critical roads like Faulks Road leading to Ariaria International Market and several others, which made access to the market very difficult, have been ovehaulednow, the road is something. The governor has been able to control the flooding problem and channeled it up to four kilometers away into Aba River.

“He has also completed Ehin Road, by Mouka Road, along with its bad spot which has been bad since I was a kid, Market Road, Ukaegbu Road, Emelogu-Ngwa Road, which has been in bad shape and its bridge linking the two parts of Aba and one other bridge constructed by former Governor Orji Kalu could not be used because of lack of access road, all these have been completed.

“Some of the projects currently receiving attention are the Aba Road, Umuahia; Nbawsi Road, Umunkpeyi-Amaiyi Road, Umuaro-Umuanunu-Ekwereazu –AkwaIbom Road, Umuobiakwa-Owo-Onicha Ngwa Road and Osusu Amaukwa Model School.

“Others are Ukaegbu Road, Ehere Road, Umuola and Ururuka road projects, six-lane dual carriage way, Osusu Road, Ugwunagbo Road, Ifeobara flood control and many others. There is also the construction of Ozuabam-Ndi Okereke-Arochukwu Road, Arochukwu, construction of Ebem Layout Road and of first ever flyover bridge at Osisioma”

“There is this road that links Umuahia to Aba; it is not an expressway, Ururuka Road, from Ogbo Hill in Aba town stretching towards Umuahia has been transformed. I drove through it the other day and I was impressed with what I saw,-a six- lane dual carriage way. It is a solid road being done by the governor. The road used to be very bad such that kidnappers and other bad boys used to hang there to commit crime without interception because the road was impassable. But now it is a straight and smooth road from Aba to Umuahia.

“Then when you come to Umuahia town, there is this road leading from the express road through Ugbatolo Junction into Umuahia, the gigantic job is currently handled by Arab Contractors, a dual carriage way.

“And in Abia North, there is Arochukwu community. There was this joke that there is no easy road to Arochukuwu, but today the governor has made the road easy, by building a powerful bridge linking the major road to Arochukwu which was not done before. The governor is doing very well in terms of infrastructural development, especially in reconnecting the people.”

Also speaking on the government’s activities, a group named Ikpeazu Consultative Team, represented by Mr. Bonnie Iwuoha said: “At the last count, not less than 80 road projects have been awarded in parts of the state. Many have been completed and commissioned while steady progress is being made in many others.”

Iwuoha, a former Commissioner for Information in the state, said: “Aba, the commercial nerve centre of the state is certainly getting better. Roads which were hitherto abandoned have received proper attention. Worthy of mention in this regard include Faulks Road being handled by SETRACO. Work has also commenced on the strategic Port Harcourt Road not to mention the Ukaegbu, Ehere, Umuola and many others.

“Apart from the road projects, another project which is very important to the state is the Nsulu Poultry cluster. When completed, it is expected that it will create job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths in the state. The idea behind the project is to provide a central facility where all those interested in poultry business will come and live. Government will be responsible for the facilities and at the end of the day the proceeds from the business will be shared between the investors and the state.

Iwuoha said; “Ikpeazu through his immense commitment towards the transformation of Aba, has completely changed the narrative of prolonged bad image of the Enyimba City. Majority of those who mocked and jeered at the commencement of the reconstruction works in Aba, have been commending the governor for rescuing residents of the Enyimba City from destructive health challenges which they suffered for years due to huge refuge dumps and swampy/stinking impassable roads.”
