NYSC LAGOS STATE MANAGEMENT SPEAKS ON THE TRAIN ACCIDENT THAT LED TO CORPS MEMBER, ODILI NNEKA’S DEATH

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Lagos State Management’s attention has been drawn to news making the rounds on the train accident that led to corps member, Odili Nneka Deborah’s (LA/17B/1169) death on 8th March, 2018
The State Co-ordinator of NYSC Lagos State, Prince Mohammed Momoh and management therefore wish to correct the news in the public domain which stated that Odili Nneka (LA/17B/1169) committed suicide by walking into a moving train, while another dimension to the story had it that the earphones or earpiece she had on prevented her from hearing the sound of the train that was in motion.
We wish to inform the general public that the deceased corps member’s phone was found intact, without any earphone or earpiece in the handbag that was with her when the accident happened,
Secondly, her facebook page indicated that at 1:42am on 8th March 2018, same day accident happened, Inneka had uploaded 36 pictures and 2 videos of herself which she tagged “Happy Mood”.
It is therefore mischievous and misleading to say that she committed suicide by deliberately walking into a moving train and that she could have avoided the accident if she had no earphones on.
It is worth mentioning thE corps member was a very active volley ball player, whose prowess and dexterity in the game of volley ball stood her out amongst her teammates during the inter platoon volley ball competitions at the 2017 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Orientation Course.
Nneka’s leadership qualities, warmth and humility also endeared her to those who came across her. While on her hospital bed, and stable but with severe pains, Nneka was still able to acknowledge NYSC Ikeja Local Government Officials for their promptness to the accident scene and for immediately conveying her to LASUTH, the NYSC State Co-ordinator for quickly providing funds for blood transfusion, and other medical needs, the Chairman Ikeja Local Government, Hon. Balogun for sending the local government nurse with some money for her medicare and the CMD LASUTH Prof. Oke and his medical team for giving her the best medical treatment.
She summed it all up in her words to Mrs. Esan Modupe, NYSC LGI Ikeja 2 shortly before she died “Help me thank everybody that saved me and did not allow me die”.
She was buried at Ndoni, Rivers State on Saturday 10th March, 2018
Her death left the NYSC Lagos State in deep shock.
On behalf of the NYSC Director General, Brig. Gen, S.Z. Kazuare, the State Co-ordinator, Management and Staff and the entire corps members of NYSC Lagos State , we commiserate with the family of our fallen Hero, Odili Inneka Deborah. We pray that God Almighty rest her in perfect peace and grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
