Just a quick one. As a Lagos landlord, If one of your tenants decided to move out of his rented apartment where he normally pay annually for rent. As expected, the Landlord was duly notified by the tenant about the fact that he wouldn't be renewing his rent. However, during the process of looking for a new apartment, the tenant spent an extra one month after his/her rent has expired before moving out. This wasn't intentional though.


Over Four Months later after moving out of the said apartment, the ex Landlord is now calling the former tenant to pay him for the one month.

Now, is the tenant supposed to pay for the extra one month? Putting Lagos state tenancy law into consideration.

Is the Landlord in order?

What is the legal implication of this dilemma?

The landlord is entitled to rent for the month.
