THE Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has been summoned by President Muhammadu Buhari over breach of presidential order.

Mr. Idris was ordered by Mr. Buhari to relocate to Benue State with a view to check the reported cases of attacks on innocent citizens in the state.

However the president during his visit to Benue, on Monday, in an on-the-spot assessment of violence-hit areas discovered that his directed was disregarded.

He said it was just made known to him during his visit to the state that the IGP did not spend up to a day there against orders of remaining in the state until the killings were stopped.


The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Mr. Ibrahim on Tuesday was in the Presidential villa apparently to explain his flouting of the President’s order to remain in Benue at the height of the incidence between farmers and herdsmen.

Quoting a presidential source, it said President Buhari who is believed to have summoned the IGP received him in a private audience and the police boss left about 30 minutes after without speaking to anyone.

“It is believed that the president demanded for a full report on police operations till date after which he will make further decisions.

”There is a renewed resolve to make sure that the killings and bad security situation in Benue State abates,” it source learnt.
