Happy International Women's Day! In March, thousands of world leaders, NGOs & activists meet to discuss how to improve the lives of women and girls. So just like the Girls Guides and Girls Scouts, i'll be sharing some tips on how the lives of women can be improved in our present society.
First, we need to know where the women are affected most. Urban (city) or Rural (town/village/countryside). Okay, i chose the rural areas since it should be our greatest concern.
Next, we talk about the challenge the women and girls face in the rural areas. For me, i say, UNSAFE SPACES AND VIOLENCE. We are not blind to the fact that girls are controlled by violence. From the men especially. And is that not a challenge to their physical, emotional and psychological stability?
So now, if i should meet with parliamentarians to tell then how they can reach out and respond to girls needs and what they should do to serve them better, i'll say, CONSULT THEM WHILE DISCUSSING BILLS/POLICIES THAT AFFECT THEM, YA'LL! The girls should have a say.
Society holds girls and women back and that's why they don't have the same opportunities or access to services as men and boyr. How? Look around you. What do you think the society feels about the future of ladies? Presidents, Governors? Leaders? Pfftttt. The African mentality that women should be confined to the kitchen is still an indelible mark im the minds of some.
Finally, what would be the solution in empowering them? Modern technology for me. Or what do you think?
