why do west africans dislike east africans?  After reading what people post about us  i can conclude that there is animosity towards us. Our land mass may be arid and we may be poor but we are all africans. Stop hating.

at the end of the day,will are all Africans

Well, as a Nigerian that has lived and worked in East Africa, I can tell you that it is probably born of the HUGE differences between East and West Africa - not just geographical, language etc, but in the fundamental ways East and West Africans think and behave.

I can elaborate if you want but I will have to try hard not to sound negative about East Africa.

You guys are right, unity is important but we have to understand each other first. And this is difficult because we rarely get the opportunity to travel to each others countries.

And their is a lot of discrimination in the East African immigration/airport/border system against fellow africans, because all they want to see is the white tourists. That does NOT help.

i find people from west think hiv is not their problem yet when peple are sick and die with no explanation they are quick to say bewitched! also blame witchcraft on too many things in general. Also i think there is ignorance about the difference between ghanians and nigerians. most of us dont realize u are so distinct until u know them. Nigerian men and women are the bomb. Ghanian, not so. Also find west africans especially those french speaking ones have colonial mentality too much. Try too hard to be like white man.

I agree with Ayomajek, west and east africans are very very different. maybe that's why we don't understand each other. I personally will love to meet east africans (i heard there are lots of somalians, ethopians, erithreans (sp?) in minnesota)

i think you can find a fair share of people with colonial mentality from all parts of Africa. But english speaking west africans, mainly Ghanaians and Nigerians have a pretty stronger sense of national patriotism than the french ones, maybe that's why you can't sniff colomentality in us all that much. and that's a good thing!


i don't find nigerians and ghanaians to be all that distinct. we're probably the most similar people in Africa. we're rivals too. lol

I must admit it is natural human instinct to want to preserve what you have or who you are, but when as an individual you are very exposed. You tend to accomodate people more cos you realise that you are no better than anyone else. Whatever you might have experienced is unnecessary and misplaced conservatism and not hatred.

Gamine, I think you'll find that is not true. Why is it that coloureds from negro origins are always referred to as black but those without negroid origins can be referred to as white? Being a west african and have related with most african, eastern/western, I do not think that west african, and nigerian especially, hates an east african fellow. There may be differences in styles/ethics but I think we regard ourselves as fellow african brothers and sisters.

Fine, there may be some people who would hate anything good, but west africans, generally speaking, are not in hostility with east african.
