Hehehehe....I saw this coming. cheesy Whenever anyone disagrees with your perspective on any subject, you and your clique are quick to play the victim card, by alleging ethnic hatred. When will you grow up? This was a simple discussion about coup plotters and Awolowo, all of a sudden you have jumped up to make wild and false allegations claiming that it is a 'malady of ethnic haters who see only what they want to see and throw away the rest of the facts.' Wubbish of the highest order. angry

I have read Ademoyega's book from cover to cover. sad I can even give you a list of other books, that would shed more light on the fact that Ademoyega dwelt more in the realm of conjecture and rhetoric, than facts. Please educate yourself, and match brake on top this your tales by moonlight.

Different books on the events that took place at that time, need to be read along with other accounts of the coup, in order to compare the different perspectives, so that readers can draw their own conclusions.
Please read the following:

According to Nigerian scholars in 2011, over 69 books and pamphlets, 53 government publications, 3 bibliographies and various theses have
been published on the different coups in this country, as well as the subsequent 30 month long Nigerian Civil War which took place between 1967 and 1970. In the US, over 2,000 books were written about their own civil war.

So there is still a need to write more. People need to tell their stories about what happened during that period, because in the words of Chimamanda Adichie "we all remember differently."
I still don't believe you have read Ademoyega's book on why they plotted 1966 coup. Give us a brief, on-the-spot synopsis on the book if you can.

When he spoke, western leaders listened with rapt attention.

Take on interviews he gave in London after Independence and his speeches. Great guy! Purposeful! Had his wits about him! He understood international politics. With the probable exception of Gowon no other Nigerian leader had those sterling qualities and more!!

Yes he might be eloquent, but not the most eloquent in Nigeria as at that time, did they tell you that Nnamdi azikiwe and awolowo are stammerers?

Simply say
He is the mist eloquent in the north, not in Nigeria, cos, as at that time, there were others in Nigeria that were more eloquent.

In my view, slanted is your perspective here Sir/Ma! Tafawa Balewa lived and let others. Dangote is a sound example of business success mixed with humility building bridges across cultural and tribal divides. Maitama Sule was a Nigerian you would be proud to share the Green Passport with anywhere on the globe. Good to know that tribalism trips up and racism will raze reason down!

You mix up the issues. Here we talk about their abilities to ramp up and deliver on what they believed to be good for the country and their life pursuits. It is a different thing altogether whether you sync with them on those fronts. Anyway, you reserve to yourself the right to advance what you believe in and work to oppose moves (overt or covert) against. It’s a game of interest.

I reiterate my post. I advise you to read more carefully my last post. It is their right to push for what they believe in. You push for yours. That is what strategy is all about. As for the less than decent language a legal mind like yours used on me and others - they depict who you are. By your supposed training you didn’t have to go up in flames just because the other person saw things differently. Let’s have a decent conversation. We don’t have to be on the same page. It’s no reason to set the book ablaze!

America can afford to elect the likes of Trump, because they have strong institutions that have been running for years, that can effectively checkmate the excesses of a poor leader. Does Nigeria have that?

Even Carl Riccadonna, Chief U.S. Economist for Bloomberg Economics, claims that "the American economy is strengthening of its own merit,” and outgoing Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen was the one who put the U.S. firmly on the path to being great again. Some economic indices have actually worsened under Trump, while a few have strengthened. Those that were strengthened, did so because they were an offshoot of Obama's policies that were continued. undecided

Sowore may be a good voice for the opposition, but that does not necessarily mean he is a competent leader. sad The best critics never make the best leaders. Go and check. Oshiomole was a fire-brand labour leader, who was a thorn in the flesh of different military leaders. The minute he got into power as Governor of Edo State, what happened? He became one of those who worked actively against the interest of unionised labour, and could not even improve the lot of the workers in his state.

Guy, forget about Sowore's critical stand. He has not put forth any ideology or blueprint to show he can govern this nation effectively, or turn its fortunes around. undecided
I have not said that Sowore is competent. But I do no that as a youth, he is got the energy to acquire that competence. Our main problem now is to create a new good system by purging out these old thieves in the executive, legislative and our judicial systems. If u have a candidate for the now that can do this, kindly let me know.

He knew very well what he was doing, there is this insidious assumption by southerners that "the northerner" is poorly educated, limited in capacity and inherently disadvantaged by the unfortunate incidence of being born north of the niger; was false assumption and some of the brightest minds this country has produced come from that region.

Balewa comes from a small tribe from whom he secured his name Balewa somewhere in Bauchi they have always been farmers and continue in that pursuit till today.

Balewa was a loyal slave to English colonialism, tribal bigot with an annoying slave mentality. He fears Igbos like a plague.
Am I even replying someone that called Balewa most eloquent thereby ignoring the great Zik of Africa?

Read Balewa's Independent speech :

Rubbish, Balewa was a modest man who played the regional politics of the time effectively.
This was a man who was not Fulani he came from a smaller village in Bauchi he can't even be described as ethnically Hausa yet he was able to unite a divergent north under one umbrella, he worked to set up industry- textile mills, leather tanning, cotton, groundnuts and farming within a short period, the Awos of this world were busing playing the same game in the south-west while the greed of Zik got the better of him, he was president but was also insisting on winning portions of the south-west.

In terms of public speaking Zik spoke well but where would you place great orators like Nkrumah and Nyerere who were substantially more intelligent and established effective Afro-centric socialist systems. That "great Zik of Africa" term is not befitting because the man has no legacy of note within the SE not to even extend much beyond the borders of Nigeria.

I will not waste my time with you, comparing Balewa with Zik in terms of public speaking.
Balewa was picked by British colonials as a local School teacher it was them that brought him up. The difference between Zik's educational exploit and Balewa is not even a gap but a chasm.

What Balewa displayed above is not regional politics as you alleged but a complete tribal bigotry, inferiority complex, slave mentality.
Dude like most Northern leaders were weary of Igbo domination and the preferred to be led by British instead of Southerners.

Comparing the oratory prowess of world-class journalist vs lower school teacher is pathetic.
Funny enough, you mention Kwame Nkrumah without being aware that you Zik was his mentor alongside host of other African nationalists.

Kwame said and I quote -

"My nationalism was also revived ... through articles written in The West African Morning Post by Nnamdi Azikwe, a Nigerian from Onitsha. Azikiwe was himself a graduate from an American university and when I had first met him after he had addressed a meeting of the Gold Coast Teachers' Association some years earlier in Accra, I had been greatly impressed by him and had been more determined than ever to go to America." - Kwame Nkrumah.
