  A Thug who slit his dog’s throat with a carving knife during a row with his girlfriend has been jailed. David Owen, 40, left a deep wound in Staffordshire Bull Terrier Lexi that would have been fatal if it had been just one millimetre deeper. Lexi was left with the gruesome injury for four days, which had been hastily patched up, before the RSPCA was called. Owen, of Netherton, West Midlands, had also sliced at the pet’s left ear, leaving the tip hanging off. He was jailed for five months by Birmingham magistrates after being found guilty in his absence of causing unnecessary suffering to Lexi at an earlier hearing. Owen was also given a lifetime ban from keeping animals. Lexi was taken into the care of the RSPCA on April 5 when inspector Steve Morrall visited Owen's home.
