ICPC is quick to pursue the case of ordinary lie in marital status but have never indicted nor convicted countless petitions of fraud, abuse of office, corruption and many others perpetuated by public office holders and politicians.

We dey watch.

Its not the embassy that took him to court. Embassy just reported forged documents to the ICPC, and ICPC took the criminal to court.

Accused person was guilty as charged. The presiding judge however aksed the accused to pay N.3m fine in lure of the jail term, adding that the fine must be paid within 24 hours after the judgement was delivered.

He wanted a shortcut outa this country but reverse is the case, .3m fine or 3yrs imprisonment. cry

I do hope the same treatment will be meted out to any foreigner or UK citizen, that decides to lie on his Nigerian visa application, at the embassy on Northumberland Avenue. Belmarsh Prison is close to Woolwich Crown Court, and such cases can be tried in the court so that the offenders can quickly be clamped into jail.

I believe that British authorities WOULD act on the report about forged documents in such cases. If a foreigner submits falsified documents when applying for a visa, and the embassy reports it, just watch it.

Well, Nigerian authorities can't be bothered. Look at, for example, Chinese construction companies around Abuja. Which company was/is building Abuja new airport terminal? One chinee company, They have more than 500 chinese workers. More chinee than Nigerians. How did they get the expatriate quota for all of them?!

Money exchange hands and that is it. You try that crap in any western embassy, and they will apprehend you and hand over to the local police.

Please find out where the money for construction of that airport terminal came from. undecided It is likely to have been through a loan or a grant from China, and one of the conditions for such loans or grants, is that a Chinese firm must be used for the construction. sad Such firms will definitely bring their staff along. But it is left for our Ministry of Labour as well as immigration authorities, to ensure that Nigerians understudy them and take over such jobs within the shortest, possible time.

Another thing is that the embassies and diplomatic staff of most Western countries, are very proactive at defending or protecting the rights of their citizens, than our own embassies or authorities ever do, in similar situations. I have personally witnessed a situation where an American brought in a weapon (i.e. a handgun) as part of his luggage, on a visit to Nigeria. Upon examination of the contents of his luggage at the airport, he was whisked away by security forces and his luggage impounded. That same day, officials of the American embassy swooped on the airport, and got him freed. He was driven across the border at night into Cotonou until the heat died down, and he went back abroad!

trust me, I know how it works. So the government breaks the very laws it creates and protects. Meanwhile, you get ripped off if the traffic warden dislikes your face, or if the customs officer things you brought in too much foreign biscuits.

The idea of expatriate quotas is good. It suppose to create the environment where a company would bring only the minimum necessary number of foreign employees, who would be there to manage, oversee the works and, more importantly, TRANSFER THE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE to local staff.
