You want to have a successful relationship? Then here are some recipes:

1. Don't try to change your partner, or wish they would act or be another way. Accept your partner as who they are. This is especially true around the holidays. When you're spending time trying to change your partner, you are losing time that could have been spent getting closer to each other, and finding the best friend and lover you know is there. Surprisingly enough, the more you leave your partner alone about small things, the more they will actually start to change anyway!

2. Pay attention. Take the time to listen to what your partner is actually saying to you. At no time can this be true than around busy and stressful events. If you see your partner getting flustered about something, stop them and tell them it's okay and you're there for them no matter what. Taking these extra, loving steps can turn any life event into something truly special.

3. Focus more on your partner's positive attributes rather than their negative ones. No one likes to be reminded of his or her faults, including you. And, let's face it, no one's perfect either. Personally, I feel life would be pretty boring if we all were. So, instead of looking at the negative attributes, remind yourself we are ALL growing and learning new things. You never know, there might be one day when you need someone to do the same for you!

4. If you feel yourself getting angry, stop and really look at what you're getting angry over. Is it something you will care about in a few months or even a few days? If not, let it go. While it's important to release your emotions, it's also important to realize what is actually worth arguing over and what is not. Remember, just because your partner doesn't agree with you on something, it doesn't mean they are not understanding you or seeing your point of view.

5. Give each other space when needed. Have a girls & guys night out. When you feel your partner is stressing because they haven't taken the time for themselves, help them out. Give them the opportunity to enjoy a night doing whatever they want to do. Then, let them return the favor once in awhile!

6. Let them know you care. Know your partner interests and encourage their activity in them. So your partner wants to spend the day watching football or shopping to catch all the after-holiday sales? Make a compromise! During the day, you both do what you want to do, then agree to do something romantic that evening such as going out to a candlelight dinner.

7. Do some of their chores once in awhile as a surprise. At no other time can this be more appreciated than around the holidays. If you're hosting your holiday events, help your partner out by cleaning the place and preparing the meals. Or, if you have kids, help keep them occupied so you can both get things done more effectively.

8. Respect your partner's feelings. If they are under stress, give them some space and love. Write little notes of appreciation and thanks then leave them for your partner to find. Or, stop and tell them how special they are every so often. By doing this, you're letting your partner know that what they are doing is appreciated and wanted. Now, who doesn't feel less stressed by that?

9. Treat your partner as your equal. The golden rule of relationships! When you're around friends and family members, it can quite easy to disrespect your partner this way, often without knowing you did it. Pay special attention around family members who may not like your partner.

10. Communicate. Sit down and have a heart to heart every once in awhile. With the busy schedules around the holidays, it's important to stop and have a daily check-in with each other, if for no other reason than to keep your sanity. Everyone needs an anchor, this season agree to be each other.
