The news has it that President Muhammad Buhari has castigated, nay berated, the Nigerian youth, whom he referred to as illiterates and lazy. I have not yet read the speech in whole from any reputable and reliable news outlets (I am assuming such outlets can exist). But knowing the character and antecedents of the President, it is more than probable that he can well say this much, and even more. He is blunt, cruelly blunt; but bluntness in itself is not a virtue. It is relative, depending on the cause and the occasion it is used for.

From the comments I have seen so far, there is a general discontent with the President's 'unpresidential and unguarded statement'. But to me, the President is very right, and he is in the best position to know that fact about Nigerians in general, and their youth in particular. My reason for saying this is simple: Buhari is the conclusive evidence and testimony of the laziness and illiteracy (read ignorance) of Nigerians, the youth especially. Let me explain.

It is only in a country of ignorant people that a person with no vision and mission, no blueprint or a plan for action will be considered in the race for presidency. It is the ignorance of Nigerians that made them think there would be anything good from a man whose only record, for twenty months, was the incarceration of the politicians he toppled for ridiculous prison terms of up to two hundred years. It is the ignorance of Nigerians that made them say that the fact that the President's school leaving certificate is doubtful, they would nonetheless go for him even if it is a utility bill that he presented as his certificate.

Nigerians are indeed ignorant. Nay, they are idiotic, foolish and stupid. Else, how could they have elected someone who brags about being going on medical trip since 1970s? Nigerians are too stupid to realize that such a person will not even bother to provide a hospital and the necessary manpower and equipment that can take care of his own health as the President. And if he can't provide such a hospital, a principal beneficiary of which he is going to be, for the time being, only a fool will think a person such as this can give a damn as to the healthcare of the common man.

Buhari's misgivings, doubt and contempt for anything Nigerian is never equivocal. He has no faith in our educational system. That is why he had his kids educated abroad. That is why to him it is nothing if university lecturers go on strike indefinitely. (Yaradua addressed the then ongoing ASUU strike in his inaugural address). But Nigerians are too ignorant to make a meaning out of all this. Only the ignorant, the idiots and stupid, will make a President out of a man that has no faith in them. Nigerian youth are indeed ignorant for they fail to realize that Buhari's contempt for them is without parallel. His is a government of the senile and the outdated. Remember his transition/handing over committee, headed by a man older than him; a man that retired years before the advent of the present century. Look at his subsequent appointments that included not only the old but the dead as well.

Equally true is the assertion that the Nigerian youth are lazy. Lazy they are, all the bunch of them. For it is only the lazy that will fold their arms watching some senile clowns compromising their present and jeopardizing their future. Only the lazy will suffer this long without rising against this tyranny. For tyranny thrives only where there are people willing to be tyrannized over. The Nigerian youth are so lazy, so much so that they have accepted it as their fate that it is the President and his cursed generation that will continue messing up the country the same way they have been doing for almost half a century. They are so stupid and so lazy that they cannot unite and rise against these common enemies of theirs, the President and his cohorts, and redeem their future and the future of their offspring.

Mr President you are very right. You are only there as our President because of the truth in what you said. In a saner country, you would not have passed the rank of a sergeant major. You do not have an IQ greater than that.
