Ten Viable Presidential Candidate For 2019 Polls(realistic) by afonjaman: 5:56pm On Apr 21, 2018
If you belong in the class of Nigerians who believes there is such a paucity of credible Presidential candidate in the coming 2019 polls, you might need to get in here
I have watched with disgust how many frantically insists that the ONLY available candidate for Nigeria is BUHARI.
How can this be so? Are we being intentionally ignorant, oblivious and mediocre?!

How is it possible that in a country that boasts of 200 million people, the only choice we have is a retired military general with a subpar Presidential credentials and mediocre economic achievement? Did i also mention that he is the 8th decade of life and battling a chronic illness.

I have met several people who seem to think President Buhari is our only choice, not because of performance in office but simply because there is

no viable option that possesses his “Anticorruption” credentials.Going by this flawed logic, then it safe to say no other person should rule Nigeria again until BUHARI kicks the bucket at age 100 or more……

Before we discuss our options at the 2019 polls here are a few questions we need to ask ourselves

# Is Muhammadu Buhari really our only choice?
??

# Is President Buhari really corruption-free?
He served under Abacha, He believes ABacha didnt steal, he reluctantly admitted Babachir lawal stole, His Silence on Aso Rock Clinic Financial misappropriation, request for 1 billion to fight ‘Boko Haram’ among others

# Must The President Come from the North again?

This is definitely a lie told to us by the former ruling party, PDP

# Can we have a Candidate That Has a clean slate?

If we want, we could!

#Do we really need a Leader that Profiles his citizens based on Tribe and religion?

We difinitely dont!

# Can a young person get into power as well?
This is hardly possible for now

With all the Above in mind, let us examine the list of 10 “astute” Nigerians that will do alot better than Buhari

1. Senator Shehu Sani

Shehu Sani, an author, playwright and a human rights activist. He is President of the Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria – (CRCN).[3] and the Chairman of Hand-in-Hand, Africa.
Senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district is probably the most reasonable Nigerian Politician alive. He is the first Senator in Nigeria to declare his assets publicly(Sept 4, 2015)

He was elected into office in 2015 under the platform of APC but that has not detered him from saying the truth even when it hurts his own party.

He has been incredibly vocal about the failings of this governement, one he is part and parcel of.

He has been at logger heads with the chieftains of All Progressive COngress in kaduna as well as the incumbent Governor, Nasir El-Rufai for obvious reasons.

he has also been involved in several scandals most recently an allegation of complicity to murder but the Murder suspect has confessed to been coerced to implicating the Senator by the Army.

Senator Shehu Sani’s political experience, involvement in activism and his unbaised, humane stance sveral sociopolitcial issues makes him the most suitable candidate in Nigeria.

2. Rabiu Kwankwaso

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, representing kano in the National assembly has been called by many as the transformer of kano.He has served two times as the governor of Kano, between 1999-2003 and 2011-2015.

His tenure as the Governor of Kano State was very eventful because of several other groups who were opposed to his high handed governorship and his attempt at supporting president Obansanjo who hails from a

different tribal group which proves he has a national mind set and is not as prejudiced like an average northerner.
He however had a relatively successful second term in power when he transformed Kano infrastructurally but has been faulted for inscribing Kwankasiyya on those projects..

The only challenge the serving Senator may have is allegations of corruption hovering over his head but none has been proven by a competent court of Law.

he is clearly not a saint but he is witty, intelligent and most importantly not TRIBALISTIC.

3. Sanusi Lamido

Sanusi Lamido is the 14th Emir of Kano and the former Governor of central bank.He was a successful banker and he was one of the leading lights

that led the charge against the unprecedented level of corruption perpetrated by the former administration as the Central bank Governor who doubled as a WHISTLEBLOWER.
He was fired for claiming $20 Billion was missing from the federation account under the administration of Goodluck Jonathan.

He successfully stabilised the banking sector and helped rescue several commercial banks that was the verge of collapse.

The Proud islamic scholar has also been vocal critic of anti-western education beliefs and has consistently stood against the menace of child marriage that has plague the northern part of the country for centuries.
He is an intellectual per excellence. His understanding of economic is incredible as most of his economic predictions has come to pass.
The TIME magazine also listed Sanusi in its TIMES 100 list of Most Influential People of 2011

It is unlikely that the revered monarch will vy for Presidency but the thought of him occupying the coveted position is exciting.

4. Yemi Osinbajo

Professor Yemi Osinbajo the current Vice President of Nigeria, is a lawyer and a Senior advocate of Nigeria. He also served as the commissioner for Justice in Lagos for 8 years.

The Revered academician who doubles as a Clergy was responsible for designing the manifesto”Roadmap to a New Nigeria” of APC which led to a successful Presidential bid in 2015 leading to the defeat of an incumbent President for the first time in Nigeria.

Eventhough he has been a part of a hugely disappointing government, his limitations are understandable knowing the way Leadership works in Nigeria.

He however gave a good account of himself in May 2017 when the President proceeded on a
medical leave and he was responsible for steering the wheel of government. The economy
significantly grew under his watch and the value of Naira rose in the international market
He however has failed to indict and prosecute the looters of the last administration but it is tempting to believe a President Osinbajo might fair better.

5. Donald Duke

Donald Duke, the longest serving comptroller and general of Nigeria customs and two-term governor of Cross-River state from 1999 to 2007.He was praised for his contribution to Agriculture, Urban development and Tourism.

He has been dubbed as the genius of Tourism after leaving his state with Obudu Cattle Ranch, Tinapa Resort and Calabar Annual Carnival which have all improved the Economy of the coastal state.

Sadly the odds are not in his favour since we have been made to believe the next President must come from the North.
He pushed for Democracy under military rule and famously said

“What got the military out of power was not democracy but the dreadful state of the economy. If we, the democratic government, cannot deliver food for the mass of people we can forget about democracy.”

6. Raji Fashola

Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN is the current serving minister of Power, Works and Housing. He is a two-term Governor of the Economic capital of Lagos after rising through the ranks under the mentor ship of Bola Tinubu.

He has been dubbed the father of Modern Lagos following his policies that improved the infrastructural wealth of lagos as well as marked improvement in the security as well as the overall economy.

He literally steered lagos in the direction we all prayed for.Infact his performance as Governor was the template on which All Progressive Alliance campaign on.

“Minister of Darkness” as he is called now following his failure to deliver improve power supply in the country but it is clear the astute Lawyer would fair better when absolute power is left in his charge.

He has proven to the whole world that with the right policies you could transform anywhere with the magic he did with Lagos.

He may be rude and arrogant with his word but this man clearly knows what it means to run a government that works.

7. Peter Obi

Peter Obi, a former governor of anambra state and a retired banker who was the youngest Chairman of Fidelity bank PLC.

Eventhough his time in power was punctuated by unlawful impeachments as well as stolen mandate, he often sought redress in the court of law and he always got justice.

Peter Obi is a fighter and leader at heart, he chose not to give up his mandate even when it seemed completly lost.

He laid the foundation for modern anambra state with his conservative economic spending during which he reduced the cost of governance andhe increased governement savings. He handed over power to Willie Obiano without owing a single dime.

He is a stategist, an intellectual and economist.

He is definitely one of the best minds, if not the best, from Igbo land

8. Bukola Saraki

Senator Bukola Saraki is the current serving Senate president of the Federal republic of Nigeria. The ever ambitious medical Doctor steered the affairs of his home state, Kwara for 8 years.

While he was governor, he oversaw a not so impressive government eventhough he improved infrastructure.

Under Saraki, Kwara became the first state to complete the Nigeria Independent Power Project.

He also improved the rural electrification to 90% which is the national highest at the time.

He has the capacity to decide where the 2019 election swings depending on where his allegiance lies.
He was recently embroiled in a trial over his false asset declaration but he has since cleared his name.

9. Nasir El- Rufai

Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, the former minister of Federal Capital Territory and current serving Governor of Kaduna state.

In his inaugural address, he announced that he and his deputy were taking a pay cut and donating 50 percent of their salaries and allowances pending an improvement in the state’s fiscal situation.
On 6 August 2015, El-Rufai in one of his first acts as governor announced that Kaduna State will adopt the Treasury Single Account policy by 1 September of the same year

Mallam El-Rufai has been describes as the “Builder of Abuja” following his strict policies that redirected the infrastructural landscape of Abuja

El-Rufai may be arrogant but he definitely informed about the nitty-gritty of government.Eventhough his loyalty to the present government betrays his morality, his track record is nothing short of impressive.

If the incumbent president changes his mind ab out 2019, El-Rufai might got his nod.

10.Atiku Abubakar

Atiku Abubakar, GCON, the former vice President of Nigeria is key contender at the 2019 polls.

The retired custom officer, Businessman, real estate expert would definitely be a force in the coming election.

Although he has a ‘corrupt’ reputation none has been proven by the court of law and he currently not under any investigation.

His misery began when he single-handedly trancated the bid for third term, which in itself is heroic but Nigerians could not careless.

He has gradually endeared himself to the youth as he is seen frequently defending the youths, most recently when President Buhari called Nigerian Youth lazy.

Eventhough he is generally not favoured, the power brokers of the country might rebrand, repackage him to suit their plans come 2019
Comment below who you think could win next year….
