Following Miracle’s win at Big Brother Naija 2018 Double Wahala, there are obviously some takeaways as to how he won the game, having looked into the strategies of winners, it is interesting to note that winners of Big Brother have a lot in common.

The first step to win Big Brother is to be observant, Miracle spent the first few weeks observing and perfecting his strategy while others were feasting. Uti on his second return to Big Brother had observed his mistake and reorganised his strategy. Observation and Strategy wins Big Brother, if Tobi had taken his time to first observe, he would have known CeeC better and not have endeared himself to her.

THE 7 STRATEGIES TO WIN BIG BROTHER
1. Have a catchy phrase/slang: Definitely no Big Brother edition ends without having one slang or the other coming from the winner, Uti was ‘Abeg abeg abeg’, Efe was ‘Based on Logistics’ and Miracle was ‘We die here’. Slangs help contestants build some form of charisma with the viewing public and it goes a long way of connecting with viewers and earning some loyalty.

2. Find a good girl/guy and be nice to him/her: Having a girl in the Big Brother House could be a make or break situation, Tobi would have probably been a winner if not for CeeC’s role in his campaign. However, Miracle on the other hand got Nina who is not so much of a drama queen and was really nice to her, encouraging her etc and this endeared the females to Miracle and they made him win, he got most votes from the female folks for how he maturely handled Nina. Also when up for eviction, the fans of your partner will keep you in, an example is Nina and Marvis who probably wouldn’t have gone far if not for their relationship with the eventual winners (Miracle and Efe, respectively).

3. Try never to quarrel: When you quarrel in the BB house, you pitch yourself with the fans of the person you quarrelled with and they won’t support you if their candidate leaves. Quarrel is also the beginning of a downfall in many cases. Teddy A quarrelled for the first time over meat and left the following week, DeeOne and Khloe as well. Because you are not peaceful, other contestants are likely to put you up for eviction. Miracle as an example tried to be at peace with all and is in the good book of all other contestants.

4. Be a little religious: This contributed to Uti’s win that year, he was the only housemate who atleast did not hide his faith. Miracle and Nina for instance too a few times prayed together. Nigerians sabi carry religion for head o and if you can do this, you’ll win the religious people’s bloc.

5. Perform at tasks: When it comes to task, die there. Efe took all the tasks last year like his life depended on it, it shows that you really want the prize. Miracle as well won every major tasks in the house, from payporte challenge to pepsi. People like to associate with winners and once you start winning, people will want to win along with you to the end, you’ll be perceived as the rightful winner of BB from the start.

6. Be interesting in the diary room: This cannot be over-emphasized, Efe that year was a joker with big brother. This is what also kept Marvis in the house for the length she was there, she was always shouting out to the public and being fun. The diary room is the easiest and best opportunity for a contestant to sell him/herself to the public, speak pidgin in the diary room if you can, sing if you can sing. Always use the opportunity of the diary room to appeal to the public when nominated and always thank the public often as well. Efe was diary room king and he won.

7. Have a good reason why you want to win: Sympathy could get you a large chunk of votes, have a meaningful dream and let the public know you need that money to fulfil that dream. People want to know that their money would be going to a cause bigger than the contestant. For Miracle, his dream is to be a full pilot and the money would help him to be able to finally write the necessary exams, who won’t want to help or vote for such a person or dream?

The irony is that these strategies are applicable to winning the hearts of the people in real life politics. Big Brother is a political game and quite easy to win if you are strategic. On this note, I say ‘All the best’ to future contestants, you have no reason not to win.
