In recent years, there has been a surge in Nigerians relocating to Canada. But of worrisome concern is that this set of Nigerians are in the middle class category (in well-paid jobs). People earning very well and doing exceptionally in their careers are packing their bags and leaving. A Facebook post I read; a top player in the Nigerian corporate environment was astounded and asked, what is happening in Canada? As a friend of his earning a million naira relocated to Canada, and this is the 4th person he knows doing same within 6 months! The comments' box showed everything; young (mid-20s & mid-30s) individuals are leaving their well-paid jobs in Nigeria, carrying with them their family to Canada (those who are married).

This cuts across sectors and industries. An example is the Big4 community where partners are no longer afraid of their top staff being poached by MNCs or fellow consultancies but them relocating to Canada/Australia/Germany/UK/US. I remember an individual whose posts I check occasionally, has relocated to Australia. While in Nigeria he worked with a Big4. Another is finishing his plans to relocate to Canada and works with a Big4. Yet another who worked with a Big4 (was a Manager during his time) has left (wetin do Big4 and Canada sef?). Correspondingly, there has been an increase of mid and senior level positions being advertised by the Big4 firms. Who else has noticed?

What about the top telco firm that lost not less than 15 high performing staff in what was described as the Canada tsunami in 2015? shocked Ditto in other telco firms. What about the medical sector where someone mentioned that 7 consultants have relocated to the UK within the last 2 years? Professionals ranging from plastic surgeons to pathologist to urologists to radiologists to neurologists to orthopaedic surgeons. This commentator further went on to say that in a federal hospital (he did not mentioned the name), every senior registrar is writing a foreign examination to leave. But that of Canada is the biggest even though Nigerians are not among the top ten nationalities migrating to Canada (Nigeria is actually 11th behind Eritrea in a survey in 2016).

What could be the reasons that make top performing staff of notable firms to relocate? Where folks earning 12 - 24 million naira annually are leaving? What is in Canada?[/b]

From Canada' point of view: Canada itself has an immigration target till 2020. They need a certain amount of working age people to boost their population to a certain level. These new immigrants are meant to contribute into the pension systems via deductions of cpp from their wages. Tax is needed to fund decaying infrastructure. Social programs needs to be funded. Good thing is that the tax or pension would not be embezzled.

From an immigrants point of view: Canada offers stability and a better prospect for them and their offsprings. They may be running from different things in their respective home countries e.g war, economic hardship, corruption, bad healthcare system etc All is not about money like most people believe that is the reason why they are relocating.

So it's a kind of win-win system for both parties involved

Whether the immigrants ever get back to their original career is another ball game. Some do, some take time especially for those in regulated professions, and some never, some start their own business. At the end of the day, they would all contribute to the cpp and pay taxes aslong as they are working.

the country is sinking, that is why

But really, some things are much more than money.

Millennial / Modern trendy Nigerians are increasingly finding it difficult to thrive in the Nigerian work space that is so primitive and barbaric

Sycophant behaviour, nepotism, unethical practices and the list goes on and on and on.

And seeing that they COULD get a better deal abroad, they are giving it a shot

the country no dey try at all
