Breaking News! Yoruba Mulls Over A Third Dynasty For Edo People by BabaRamota1980: 6:21pm On May 06, 2018
The Ekaladheran hoax that was crafted many centuries ago to pacify rebellion in Edo society and give acceptance of Yoruba Oba in second dynasty of rulership has lately been a point of controversy. Edo people have awakened with a new rebellion targeting the historical truth behind their local hero and legend, Ekaladheran, a prince of the Ogiso Chiefs. They claim, with no substantiated history, art, record or even tradition, that the Yoruba Oba is a scion of Ekaladheran.

First written records of Edo society and history were penned by Portuguese, followed by Dutch, then English. Release and interpretation of archived materials are surfacing, including a very telling narrative and research work kept in an academic research institute managed by Russia. None of the works of these first time witnesses, record keepers, explorers, archeologists, anthropologists, linguists, historians and even artists, has yet to disclaim Ile Ife as the root and headstart of the first and second dynasties of rulers over Edo people.

So where did the Edos obtain their story that Ekaladheran was the founder of Ile Ife monarch and his scion came back home to rule over his father's throne?

In his just concluded visit to Ile Ife and to the shrine of Bini Kings' burial crypt, the current Omo N'Oba gave us an hint. He said his father visited Ooni of Ife but he could not understand what happened between them. In local parlance, a cold, distant relationship developed.

When he returned home the Oba, a Yoruba dynasty, went to work and planned a competition, a challenge to authority of Ooni. So he published a book highlighting Ekaladheran as the founder of Ooni's throne.

His work will not be first time a Yoruba King has rebelled against authorities above him. Oba of Lagos did not long ago, Oniwo did not long ago. Ile Ife is sacred! The Holy City has never been successfully violated, either by open or hidden warfare.

The Ekaladheran story is a well orchestrated ploy, a hidden warfare brewed to disrepute the origin of Omo N'Oba stool. The Edos are attached to it and promote it.

Bini was not the first stop-point for Portuguese in Nigeria but it was the first organized society they related with. As vast as their exploration and knowledge of people and geography, would one say the Portuguese were ignorant when the recorded history and narrated that the King in Bini declared that the authority of his power comes from Ile Ife?

As widely reputed as Bini is known to create works of arts or to practice deity and hero worship, would it be wrong to say if indeed such a personage of Ekaladheran existed and in the history claimed for him, that Bini would never have omitted creating an edifice, a shrine, a devotion or a memorial in his honour? Yet we find there is no such thing at all anywhere in the world for Ekaladheran, beside a book published few years ago on the tailend of a bitter feeling over visit to Ife.

All these issues have been weighed and in view of continued rebellion of Edo, including going against the tongue of present King who is consistent with archived records and maintained Ife is his origin, the Yorubas have designed a way to manage the rebellion.

Yorubas maintain Edo rebellion is not a new phenomenon. Their forefathers rebelled against the Ogiso rulers sent from Ife to conquer and rule over them in first dynasty. When their obstination was becoming irritating a second dynasty was sent, led by Prince Oranmiyan, and installed a fitting title, Omo N'Oba. Coming from background of a well ordered civilized society Oranmiyan could not believe the chaos and discordant society of Edo people, he called the place Ile Ibinu. Ibinu evolved to become Ibini, its short form is Bini and its anglocised form is Benin. Not only did we give them dynasty but we also gave them a city known till today as Bini.

There is no need reinventing the wheel, says Yoruba. The original template is still valid but need a new application. This is what brought the new thoughts to deal with Edo rebellion with a third dynasty.

A third dynasty from Ife? No!

A third dynasty with two options and one to pick from.

In the beginning separate the civilized, orderly Bini society from the uncivilized rebellious Edo society.

1. Impose a prince of the Ginuwa dynasty and make him the State Ruler over Edo people. Hencefort Edo will come under Itsekiri dominance.

2. Impose a prince of the Pere dynasty and make him the State Ruler over Edo people. Hencefort Edo will be subperior to Oru people, the Ijaw Kingdom.

....it's still early to get clue on how events will turn out but you will be updated as new revelations are made. grin

Long Live Yoruba
Long Live Bini
Long Live Itsekiri
Long Live Ijaw

The rest of the world is scheming and planning ahead to find their relevance in the future, here in Nigeria, we are seeking relevance in a long gone past. Rubbish!!

A people with pride of ancestry and antiquity do not write off their past as "rubbish", however great the challenges of modernity.

I wonder what past you came from? cool

It's good to have pride in your own history and celebrate it but to seek to impose your own version of history on others and even talk of imposing a ruling dynasty on them in this century is total rubbish!! Let the Yoruba celebrate their own history and let the Bini celebrate theirs too. The rest of the world have documented their history and celebrate it while positioning themselves to be relevant in the future but your post is merely seeking political relevance in a long gone past. None of you alive today were living when all these things you're fighting yourselves over happened and yet you bandy your own versions of the events as if they were divine truths. All of you are just recounting the history in a way that makes your own side the lords over the other side in the past (emphasis on in the past), of what relevance is your imposing a ruling dynasty on the Binis in this age? I will urge you to channel your mental energy to strategize on how your people can remain a force to reckon with in the present and in the future. Let the Binis celebrate their history and traditional institutions the way they remember it while you also do the same on your own side.

Bini is a culture, tradition and historical appendage of Yoruba. Bini business is our business. Edo business is not our business. Edo rebellion will be dealt with, modernity or not.

See how your Oba kept a safe distance from Owo...using them to exterminate and humiliate his opponents.
