I just checked a Toyota Avalon 2002 I intend to buying in ph.. Engine checks out fine..still steams... Gear checks out fine too.. Interiors 70% exterior. 70%...so I scanned the car and got two 02 related codes.. Which I believe is minor fix.. Need to fix the side glass.. And a Lil more overrall fix.. Owner stated 850k but we negotiated for price of 650k..now the issue.. No custom papers.. I intend to travel with the car in the nearest future.. [/b]The argument is.. Customs don't stop cars as old as 02 model cars[b]..is this true.??

Can I go ahead with the purchase?

I don't even know bro.. But from other documents.. The current user bough t it last year.. For 1.1m Nigerian used.. And the original owner has travelled abroad.. So.. I don't know.. But.. I guess fleeing is the best option... Thanks a lot boss..

abi...i agree with you ..its an a tempting ride.. But.. I must flee.. I believe I will see another.. Thought I am alarmed at the level of low level maintenance Nigerians have for their cars.. I have checked over 15 cars in two weeks.. And still haven't seen one to buy.. Always having issues.. Thank God for scanner and Nairaland knowledge on how to check used cars before buying.

really?? Cos they have stopped my friend before who drove Honda baby boy... While travelling...

My guess is your personality matters a lot. I travel a lot and none of the cars has customs duty. Although They never stopped me in the baby boy but when i drove the EOD, at a point I thought i was the only one customs were out on the road to impound. I can remember about 3 times they stopped me and at all these occasions max i sorted was 1k. Perhaps someone would attribute that to luck but i think much of it was acknowledging there was no paper. Sometimes i went away for free.

eod is a great car... I used those pocket sized scanning tools...
Through I must admit.. I bought a badly used eod which I had to fix myself.. Reconnect thermostat and all.. Etc.

No problems bro. It is.. And it's very effective.. It scans engine and gearbox..thats..drivetrain... But It can't be compared to those bigger scanners.

One last question. What is the drawbsck compared to the bigger scanner? I am asking because i dont see why someone will have a car and not try at least to get a scanner to avoid all these guess work by kazeems

Basically.. The bigger and more expensive scanners can scan more aspects of the car.. Like.. Abs.. Etc.. Every car owners should own a scanner.. Even at least.. The basic ones..

My cousin crashed my car oo when he travelled with it...and he is still fixing it...i don vex leave the car for him...

it should be done soon but i dont think i will ride that car again...the nikka has personalized it ooo....
