I’m not equating a specialist nurse with a specialist doctor, of course the doctor should earn more. What is the essence of studying nursing in the university if you can’t progress to a specialist. You mean biochemist, pharmacist, lab techs etc cannot be specialist in a specific area of their field? That’s unfair.

What Johesu wants is that if a nurse reaches level 15, then she and a Cardiologist at that level should earn the same pay, who does that? That what putting them at the same scale would mean.

At least its clear where the problem in the health sector is coming from now. The doctors don't want other staff to enjoy a little increament of salary even after government has increased their slararies more than Three times in in four years. This is just a case of wickedness and man's inhumanity to man. The doctors are not the employer of labour but they are telling government what to do. It's a case of eating alone and wanting other people to die of hunger even though there is excess food to serve everybody. Let the world see how wicked the doctors are in Nigeria.

Let me tell you the truth early this year the government of Canada increased doctors salary but the doctors refused the increament and told the government to use the money to pay other health workers and improve the facilities in the hospitals for patients to enjoy. But in Nigeria the case is opposite.
You took the words from my mouth.....Selfish group of humans undecided undecided undecided

That's the problem. U guys always think dat j knw it all Nd others ar dumb. Aside surgery, a hospital will run perfectly well without a doctor. Take that to the bank.

Patients will die helterskelter. And i shit you not. I see patients from hospital without doctors, and what they do there should be considered a crime. Nothing can serve as a substitute for appropriate medical training.

Nothing like equity. Doctors lay down their youth and all to practice for humanity. A thoroughly bleeped lab gal who cohabited through out her nondemanding 5years wants to be on the same scale as him. Mention a single sane country where doctors are one the same scale as pharmacist, nurses and lab Scientist. You have ur internet, use it. If u show me any advanced country with that model, then I will immediately switch sides. If not, shame on u and all Johesu members.

NMA is not against pay rise for anybody but ask that relativity be sacrosanct according to international best practice.. We must learn to respect professionalism in this country.
Johesu was formed to hang up against the doctors in the health sector because they feel with their strength they can arm twist the government.. Some of it's demands ate briddled with ego, jealousy and desire to reap where one didn't sow. The door is wide open for any who wishes to study medicine. No following short cut, go back to school and be accorded same status.
bro forget that thing they are team of health workers, the doctor is never superior in the health team one can never survive without another it's high time Nigeria doctors pocket there pride and work with other health workers

As a seasoned public servant, my heart bleeds whenever I read what you young ones with no experience come to social media to post. I am not a member of JOHESU but look at this objectively, a fresh medical officer enters the public service at grade level (GL)12 while pharmacist and lab sci enter on GL 10, nurse on GL 8....how can these salaries be the same? doctor's call duty allowance is 4% of his basic salary while pharmacist's call duty is 2% of his basic salary...now how can 4% of GL 12 be same with 2% of GL 10? Nurses collect shift duty allowance, how can a meagre shift duty allowance of GL 8 be the same with 4% of GL 12?
A medical officer who enters on GL 12 as resident and becomes a fellow after 4 or 6yrs is upgraded to GL 15 ..it takes a pharmacist minimum of 12 yrs to get to GL 15 and nurse minimum of 18 yrs to get to GL 15. NMA is really not helping the Nigerian health sector.

But i showed you proof that johesu is asking for the same pay as doctors.

If they were asking for a simple raise, it wouldnt cause his much problem.

How does upward adjustment of the CONHESS salary scale translate to equal pay with Drs?
How does payment of their salary arrears translate to pay parity with Drs?

I don't know what you guys mean by relativity. Without the subsequent increase in Drs pay thrice which the other health professionals didn't complain about and the payment of their arrears, the level of entry of the health professionals aren't even the same, that alone has placed Drs several years ahead of others.

I haven't seen a more selfish set of people.

JOHESU should please continue with the strike and ensure that the government does the right thing by acceding to their demands. They should never be intimidated by those rogues that parade themselves as NMA. The foolish NMA kept repeating international best practices in their obnoxious notice, yet they don't want other healthcare professionals to attain same heights as their colleagues in the international community. They only talk about international best practices when it suits their selfish interests.

The only people that suffer from this unnecessary rivalry are the patients.
Every part of the health sector should work in harmony and synchronously with each other.
Having used the health care sector in countries like USA, i can tell tell you for a fact that other health professionals are also made consultants.
There are consultant pharmacist, Nurse practitioners and so on. Even though they don't make as much as a doctor, they are well respected when it come heading their departments and work directly with doctors and even go on rounds with doctors.

This rivalry is absolutely unnecessary !!!

Grant JOHESU what they want and grant NMA what they want.
I am sure there has to be a middle ground!
You need get your facts right.. these consultants are not hospital based but are private practised.. A model of this was allowed in UCH ibadan years back and the outcome was disastrous.. A so called consultant nurse was refutting the management plan for a patient because she claimed to also be a consultant hence the managing consultant should contact her first.. that is the aim if this agitation and why NMA is cautious and vehement.. The intention for these demands are ego centred and it will do more harm than good because of the nature of a black man.

My dear, a pharmacist knows less than 1/1000 of what a doctor knows.
when doctors are discussing medicine a pharmacist will comprehend far less than one tenth(1/10) of what is discussed that is if he will understand it at all. The gap of knowledge between a doctor & a pharmacist is immeasurable.

Some of you just display your stupidity online and are so shameless about it. Do you know what it takes to graduate from pharmacy school or nursing school?? You think you are the only one that studies or writes exams?? Some of you would not survive the stress of studying all those courses!

And for your information, most people did not choose other healthcare courses because they couldn't gain admission into medicine but because those courses are what they love.

What sort of 3rd world reasoning is this

The solution to these imbroglio is simple, get every Nigerian registered with health insurance, at least #500 subscription per month, privatise these govt hospitals . that is when we will see whose services are vital or not . secondly , the said insurance gives more Nigerians access to care in good private hospitals at no cost . what we need is a good health insurance and all these crap will stop johesu/nma wahala will stop!

we lack sincerity of purpose in this country for doctors to rise against the demand of other health workers is pure nonsense and selfishness. in reality they should have leave the ball for both JOHESU and govt to play. if not that you people are self centred why can't you plead with govt on behalf of this people for better salary placement is unhealthy when people who are not matter in patient contact and care take higher hazard allowance than the nurses who always in contact with patients 24/7 take little, its wrong and I against such decision from federal govt to pay visiting staff more than the grand owner of the industry...the earlier the government take correction now the better for all of us or hospital remain close down...
To be a nurse is not by mouth, is by act
despite doctors not on strike what's the activities going on in any federal health institutions now?

Good one from NMA. One day, a court clerk will demand to be made CJN.
If they're serious, let them disintegrate into their various professional bodies and go on strike individually and let's see if anyone will talk to them.
Let the pharmacists go on strike and see if they'll be remembered even after five years of striking.
They think that by recruiting gatemen, cleaners, receptionist and every Tom, Dick and Harry into their fold they'll automatically become doctors.

a registered nurse of over 20 years experience who is a specialist in say oncology should earn much more than a fresh medical graduate.

Moreover before government sign any agreement with JOHESU, government should include licenses and examinations every two years for all JOHESU members. No exam no license, no license no job and no salary review.
sure a nurse with such experience u quoted surely earn more than a fresh MBBS graduate. I think d current relativity for health workers in Nigeria is 2:3:4 that's is if a nurse with ND certificate not Bsc earns 60k what d relativity is all about is that a nurse with Bsc, a pharmacist and other guys in the hospital with Bsc is expected to earn 90k and an MBBS holder that is a Doctor is expected to earn 120k .I think its fair enough in ds country cos in other countries like say US or UK its 1:2:3 relativity.I stand to be corrected anyway .that is if govt is going to increase salary for JOHESU guys d govt shouldn't forget relativity and dats what ds NMA memo is all about.that is NMA is also expecting d govt to increase theirs too.base on the relativity arrangement already on ground. I think all we need in ds country is jus to have understanding among ourselves.or else we all are going to suffer d consequences of all ds strikes.I have seen when casala happened, the person striking was like saying please forget ds strike and help me becos of God.May God help us

Indeed, 'The All-Knowers'

You can't know all, I am very close to a one time the best grad Medical student of a top notch Nigerian University, we were discussing and he didn't know a particular common antihistamine, anti motion sickness drug, He was humble enough to ask what it was, I didn't fault him, we can't know all and I have learnt loads from him too.
We school together, work together, you guys ask some weird questions, make some silly slips, we wonder what you are taught.
But it's normal cos no one knows it all, you know as much as you expose yourself to and with experience.

It's already that way dude. Moreover a nurse cannot be specialist in Oncology, she makes no single decision the specialist does. Even if she has spent 20years, a Senior registrar who has spent 3 yrs in oncology should earn more. A Doctor trumps every other person in the hospital, the hospital was built for him and patients troop in to see him. All other thrashy workers should do his bidding or resign. If they want to be doctors they should have passed Jamb. 90% of Lab scientist filled in Medicine at one time or the other for God sake, so also 98% of male BSC Nurses, the non graduate nurses went to nursing school because they were too dumb to pass Jamb, today they want to be on the same salary scale as Doctor.
