Why Tinubu Remains More Influential Than Obasanjo In Yorubaland by Naijiant: 12:39pm On May 26, 2018
Former president Olusegun Obasanjo and the former governor of Lagos State Bola Tinubu have hardly ever seen eye to eye politically.  Although both men backed Muhammadu Buhari's presidential bid about three years ago, they were at loggerheads when both were in office as Tinubu helped to prevent Obasanjo's Peoples Democratic Party secure dominance in Western Nigeria - both men's home region.

Obasanjo has since fallen out with Buhari and is dead against the president's reelection in 2019, writing a couple of letters complaining about Buhari's failures in office.  Tinubu termed Obasanjo's anti-Buhari epistles as "bad belle" (sour grapes).  Many Nigerian observers wonder how both men with claims to dominance in western Nigeria politics would affect voting for Buhari in that region in 2019.

It's because he steals and shares more while obasanjo only steals and never shares. Buhari, a good man with bad intentions.

The leadership you get is what you deserve and it is a reflection of the society itself.

Tinubu is a very crooked and vile man. He is a fraud in all proportions and also highly corrupt scheming bastard. This appeals much to the Yorubas and that is why they like Tinubu. It is similar to how a drug dealer is revered in the ghettos - that's because he is the only inspiration among the down-trodden residents.

Tinubu fits the definition and position of Leader for the highly dysfunctional Yoruba society of today.

You have been choosing Barabas since inception.

Swelling the coffers of LASG for his own greed is not the same as building Lagos economy.

Tinubu had no hand in Lagos being the largest economy in Nigeria today. That has been the position Lagos has been enjoying since she was declared a Colony by the British. Lagos economy is not down to the crooks in Aluasa but as a result of a skewed FG policy in her favor and also for the mere fact that Nigeria is an import based economy.

Left on her own device, Lagos will descend into an ending recession that she will never recover.

If Lagos is so important to Nigeria's economy then how come Lagos could not bail Nigeria out of recession but rather you were all praying for a resurgence of oil prices?

The fact be said, Tinubu and his Alausa cronies have done more harm to Lagos by their continued extortion and out right embezzlement than you can imagine. Ogun is benefiting from Tinubu's greed as more companies are relocating there.

And on a closing note, I don't see how the finances and revenue base of Lagos benefits you the ordinary man.

Tinubu gets a very generous share of the takings before Ambode and the likes delve in to finish whatever is extorted from you and they will later turn around and tax you more to build infrastructures that they will later put a toll on.

You Lagosians are by far themost myopic and stupidiest people in Nigeria today.

OBJ never had any kind of influence in the SW.

They didn't vote for him, they don't have any building or statue in his honor...

The Op is a typical pained flatron -- that is their signature, they are very bitter people. They spend so much time obsessing over Yorubaland and its leaders (particularly their arch-nemesis, Tinubu), while their useless region keeps retrogressing. They won't open a thread about holding their governors accountable for watching industries pack up in their region (https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/08/75-manufacturing-firms-close-south-east-bad-roads-poor-infrastructure-5yrs-man/ ). They won't ask why Ogun's IGR alone is more than those of all their SE states put together. No they won't o. But if it is to open threads everyday attacking Tinubu and Yoruba people, and exhibiting bad-belle about how Ogun is seeing a lot of industrial activity (as if Yoruba people are supposed to be upset about that Only stvpid and foolish igbbos would think that way). Ogun's rise isn't slowing down Lagos IGR and visionary ambitions so abeg help me ask them wetin consign dem o?? We Yorubas are happy about the development, and any flatron that isn't can go jump in the Lagoon.

When last did you see a Yoruba person bother to open a thread about an Igbo leader or Igbo state's affair? We no get the time, besides, they're inconsequential in the larger scheme of things anyway. But I guess it's because they acknowledge Tinubu's super-relevance that they relentlessly obsess over him. Matter of fact, threads like this actually validate his relevance because the guy you quoted is obviously a frustrated tout who's simply angry over Tinubu's role and influence in both the last election and the upcoming one, and I guess he can't think of any other way to vent that than to actually sit down and pen his diatribe here (https://www.nairaland.com/4525687/tinubus-ego-greed-end#67900832 ). Anyway, na their headache. And na that headache go ki' all of them. grin cheesy Awon hate-filled morafackas oshi.

Because Tinubu only pushes regional agenda and once you have such extremist minds you have succeeded in making work easier for followers.

So because there is a rift between Buhari and OBJ, it means Tinubu is more relevant
