Say what you may about Buhari. He may not be literate enough but the man sure is smart.

He knows deep within that his works alone can't guarantee him a second term. All he had to do was focus on something controversial, something symbolic, something to guarantee him the vote of a certain tribe. The result is the making of June 12 Democracy Day and the conferment on the late MKO Abiola the title of GCFR, even though that move has been deemed as illegal.

The MKO/June 12 matter has been a serious issue to the people of the South West. How that day goes by with little or no commemoration knowing very well that their son won an election that was annulled is something that's been given many of them sleepless nights for years.

When Nigeria entered Civilian rule in 1999, many Southwesterners thought the then President, Olusegun Obasanjo, would do something as regards the June 12/MKO matter, even if it's naming the day after him and stuff. But 8years went by and he did nothing. Obviously this was some form of betrayal. And till today some people of SW still resent Obasanjo for not taking any action as regards the June12 matter.

The next government that came in didn't do much. Although the Goodluck Jonathan, who succeeded Umaru Yar'adua as president after the latter's death tried renaming a Federal University in one of the SW states after MKO, but that move was heavily criticised, surprisingly by the SWers themselves.

In recent times there has been serious criticism of this present administration performing below par. Indeed the president is only loved in the North, and if care is not taken, he may kiss dreams of a second term goodbye. But that was until...

Even though most SWers argue that Buhari making June 12 Democracy Day and honouring MKO and another of their son, the illustrious Gani Fawenhimi, still doesn't change their mind about him in regards to him performance so far, it is quite obvious that Buhari has made a move that would endear the people of SW to him, and ultimately make them support his 2019 ambition.

Now, all he needs do is grant some concessions to my South Eastern brothers, even if it's making May 30 a day or remembrance for "the falling Heroes" and he's sure to sweep the SE clean.

After that he'd do something about the Ken Saro-Wiwa matter and win the South South too.

Who said Buhari wasn't smart?

Lalasticlala Mynd44 please.

The man knows Yorubas are too sentimental and deceiving them is very easy, so he decided this means to play them.

Buhari is not clever at all to have done this illegal thing.

While we Igbos voted massively for late mko, Yorubas are yet to appreciate us for that.

Buhari should step down and hand over power to abiolas son or daughter, that way we shall know he is sincere ...
