I remember them screaming, Lagos is yoruba and yoruba is Lagos, others can go to hell!
Forgetting that Lagos was once an FCT hence the entire nation pulled their resources to make Lagos work!.
What's most hurtful about that dammed law was that it compelled ALL schools!(private and public).
If Ambode is not part of Nigerias disunity then i wonder
Who is! undecided

We are actually happy with the law. We want all SW states to pass it.

This is a stûpid bill. What if the indigenes lack the experience which is obviously the most important for most companies? That means extra cost in training while the government doesn't provide any incentive for the companies. If i were an investor because of this bill i will stay clear from Akwa Ibom and just invest in the neighboring state like Calabar instead.

Actually it needs to happen. It's job protection and can be for state or region. In which case Yoruba can do a regional job protection for their indigenes. It's a good lead and I like what Akwa Ibom has done.

Apologies, but this bill if signed will be a nonsensical one. Most folks in the state, I've to say, lack simple work ethic! As simple as it's, it's lacking. Last I checked, businesses don't employ based on sentiments (except ailing businesses. Which is why there are ailing). The bill is ridiculous!

How many Nigerians in general have work ethic? The rude nonchalant staff in commercial banks are they not Nigerians?
Re: Bill To Compel Companies To Hire ‘indigenes’ Passed By Akwa Ibom Assembly by Truthcat: 5:45am On Jun 10, 2018
I'm still saying it that, there are no true parents in Yorubaland, everyone is just about themselves alone. They do not care about the future of their children. I often wonder the percentage of Yoruba population that is autistic, something is really wrong somewhere. White Americans use brains and black Americans use brawl, Ibos use brawl and Hausa&Fulani use brawl but Yoruba use neither. I understand, using brawl is beneath us, but what stops us from using our brains?

Every state should have it, it will help hold every governor accountable and spring up development since you all have to stay in your home state to find jobs knowing your chances outside your area are slim.

Re: Bill To Compel Companies To Hire ‘indigenes’ Passed By Akwa Ibom Assembly by deomelo: 6:41am On Jun 10, 2018
This is so silly, pointless and counterproductive.

If you don't have skilled manpower to compete for available positions, then find out why and make necessary adjustments by opening skills centers, specialized training, education facilities upgrade, tech hubs and innovation centers, incentives and inducements for locals to seek productive skill and so on.

This is the state government basically jettisoning their responsibilities and passing it on to potential investors.

Investors and job creators generally are into readymade skilled manpower because training unskilled folks to fill available positions eats into profit margins and their bottom line.

I see investors and job seekers skipping this state in favor of favorable environments.

When akpabio was passing and looting the largest yearly budgets in Nigeria, he did not build 1 single skills center and definitely not 1 single classroom.

Sadly, we reap what we sow and the chicken will always come home to roost.

Must you keep saying nonsense to feel good about yourself?

The Colonists described Lagos as "the richest, where the money is."

Lagos built Nigeria, it puts in $100 and gets $2 in return, no resources from anywhere came to Lagos. What resources do you even have to begin with? Yorubaland is still footing over 50% of Nigeria's bill, so what the hell is this Fct nonsense? Do you lose your identity because of your tenant? Fct was our freeloader tenant that didn't bring anything but took everything from Lagos and has since moved somewhere else but still leeching us.The English met Lagos a rich place and that's why they chose it after trying others, same reason you all have been running there in droves up till now.

Nigerians express shock over rot in Akwa Ibom public schools

June 8, 2018Cletus Ukpong

Nigerians have expressed shock and angst over the rot in Akwa Ibom public schools following PREMIUM TIMES’ damning investigative series on how corruption, poor government planning, and outright neglect has ruined the education sector in one of Nigeria’s richest states.

Akwa Ibom has multinationals like Mobil, an affiliate of the American oil giant, ExxonMobil, drilling oil in the state. And because of its contributions to Nigeria’s oil earnings, Akwa Ibom regularly receives more money from the Federation Account every month than each of the other 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

This is beside the revenue the state generates internally.

In five years alone, between 2013 and 2017, the state received N1.029 trillion (about $2.8 billion) from the country’s Federation Account, for instance.

Yet classrooms in several public primary and secondary schools in the state are shamefully dilapidated and roofless, while pupils and students, in some cases, sit on bare floor to learn, according to the series which started running in the paper on May 23.

The reports also show low morale, incompetence, and corruption among ill-equipped and poorly-paid teachers who sometimes go for several months without pay.

Corruption trickles down from the officials of the education ministry, to the school principals, and to the teachers, one school principal admitted to PREMIUM TIMES in one of the reports.

Ministry officials on routine inspection visits to secondary schools constantly demand gift items like tissue papers, mobbing sticks, and soaps from principals, said the school principal who is also an official of the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), in the state.

“If you don’t give in to the demands of the ministry officials visiting your school, be ready to have your promotion and other entitlements delayed because of the negative report they will surely write after the visit,” she said.

While successive administrations in the state appeared careless about the rot, most people in the state, including low-income earners, now prefer to send their children to expensive private schools sprouting up rapidly in different parts of the state.

....but instead of fixing their own self-made problems and neglect, they are trying to shift the responsibility to investors.

There is one slavish gbewudani about 4 post above you that still has his head far in his anus, saying how "Yoruba can never do this, and how it makes them excel" bla bla and all kind of subservient bunkum like that, I just shook my head. You will just know that he's a resident imbecille. Whites are still the most advanced people, but guess what? There are places blacks will never be allowed to work in, it's not racism, but to protect their present and future.

The should also be a National database for all the unemployed with access to their CV's so employers can easily checkup for these people and government can provide jobs more easily to Nigerians.

Abuja doesn't contribute anything to the federation account, the entire north contributes just 2% and that's even from the Middle belt states. Nigeria didn't have any revenue and was living solely on Yorubaland before oil, that was why our region attracted the Colonists and was the most developed under regionalism. Ibos and Hausa didn't have anything until we came together under unitary system. Today Yorubaland still contributes over 50% of the cost of federal govt's running. If the Colonists could call my region "the richest, where the money is" as far back as over 100 yrs ago, where else do you think they got money to set the ball of Nigeria rolling from? Yoruba's ingenuity brought the sit of power to Lagos and enabling environment for the Colonists just as we still do today for you ingrates. We were ruling ourselves then and free from this unitary system that is holding us down now, thanks to the ibos who because they know they can never grow decided to join forces with the fulani & Hausa to hold Yoruba down. You all are against going back to regionalism because you know your regions will look like Somalia beside our Dubai, and you are scared to death. Can you point to one thing your forefathers did under self rule? Nothing!
