Art Thou He That Should Come?

Matthew 11: 2-6:

11:2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

11:3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

11:4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:

11:5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

11:6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

When God is done with an institution, then,

darkness becomes inevitable. During the active

days of the ministry of John the Baptist,

Jerusalem, Judea, and people in the region of

Jordan went out to him to be baptized, confessing

their sins. Then, Jesus came from Galilee to

Judea and He got baptized too. The Spirit of

God descended on Him, spectacularly, opening a

new chapter in God’s plan and He moved on from

there.

God’s decision to move on must have caught

John unawares. He didn’t understand it. He,

possibly, continued baptizing people after his

experience with Christ, but one thing was clear:

God moved on and he did not pick it!

Descent Into The Pit of Religion…

Matthew 9: 14-17;

9:14 Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?

9:15 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.

9:16 No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.

9:17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

It became all religion when John the Baptist and

his disciples lost it. They failed to pick God’s time

and timing and then they got sidelined!

Joining forces with the Pharisees that Jesus

criticized as the “generation of vipers” who are

“evil” (Matthew 12:34) signaled the beginning of

their end. Hmmmm…

This is serious.

When The Fowls Come For The Sacrifice…

Genesis 15: 7-12;

15:7 And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.

15:8 And he said, LORD God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

15:9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.

15:10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.

15:11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.

15:12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.

God gave Abraham (Abram) this sign when he

asked him how he would know that he would

inherit the land. God told him to bring Him some

animals, then, Abraham went ahead and “divided

them in the midst, and laid each piece one against

another” – a sin of presumption! God held back

from the sacrifice and then Abraham spent all day

driving away fowls.

The enemy can sense it whenever it goes wrong

and will indulge the religious ones in the chase

game to keep them busy until “an horror of

darkness” falls upon them. That, now, is the

danger.

May God help us!
