Decided to put a thread out there for people who are passionate about Leadership. Let us discuss leadership, good leadership. Please this thread is for those who want to passionately talk about leadership in any dimension.

The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born-that there is a genetic factor to leadership. This myth asserts that people simply either have certain charismatic qualities or not. That's nonsense; in fact, the opposite is true. Leaders are made rather than born. Overall, the challenge of leadership is both moral and one of developing the characteristics that make us respected by one another. YOU TOO CAN LEAD

This is the Career section.
Are you referring to Career/Professional/Organizational Leadership?

I'm surprised that no one has responded to your post given that you have asked a great question. I hope that the dearth of responses is not an indication of the type of people that use this site....Each of us are leaders in our own way; whether they involve big or small decisions. Some of the important characteristics of being a successful leader are 1. to be able to recognize when our own talents/resources are limited and to seek help 2. Recognizing when our decisions are biased and making fair and equitable judgement per the facts 3. Inspiring others not only by our words but more so by our actions 4. Considering the input of others and being receptive to feedback 5. Learning to work with various types of people.

Leaders become great leaders because of their wisdom and experience. The more tasks they deal with the better equipped they are to make decisions based on past encounters. It is important to note, that you will not experience everything the world has to offer so wherever there is a lack in experience it is important to learn from others.

To frame this within the context of development in Africa, each of our country's leaders must engage in dialogue related to how we can all grow beneficially for the future. What can we offer each other? What can we learn from our successes or failures? How can we inspire our youth to be invested in the future? Good leaders are judged not only on their immediate accomplishments but also on the tools and resources they have put in place so that future leaders can continue where they left off.
