I was about going for my weekly shopping and something just came to my mind, is there any rule that state we must cook rice for launch on Sundays? 90% of households in Nigeria eat rice very Sunday. I just decided to cook yam and egg sauce tomorrow to see if something unusual will happen

Because it is in the constitution.

That was when we were younger, it was referred to as special food then.
Presently, rice is eaten almost everyday in every household.

I hate this rice thing with passion , this rice is eaten in my house more than 3times in a week. Thank God for the the eateries around me though lol

I don't mean this in a negative way but it is an Igbo thing. Growing up, we ate anything on Sunday until I lived briefly with my sister who married an Igbo. Of course she didn't practice it but we had her mother in law who talked about it a lot. Her husband friends and all the other in-laws too would come around on Sundays and be like, 'its Sunday why didn't you cook rice'? They got used to it eventually.

I will agree with you on this. I'm Igbo and we eat rice every Sunday in my family. Its not like we don't eat it on other days of the week though, but we must eat it every Sunday. Right now, I'm patiently waiting for the rice to get ready.
All my relatives and friends who are Igbos also eat rice on Sundays too.
I'm very surprised to find out now that it's not every family in Nigeria that eats rice on Sundays. I thought it was a general thing.
There's something special about Sunday rice. grin

The sunday rice tradition has been there since I was born. When I got married I told everyone we'd stop eating rice every sunday, they said "laye laye".Then I told them,we could alternate it and make it two sundays in a month. I don't really like rice. Today I'm making swallow with efo riro, before rice will come and start growing on my head.
