This Poem is dedicated to all those who lost their lives in the Lagos tanker explosion

INFERNO

I woke up this morning in anticipation.
Elated at the break of a new dawn.
Humming my favorite song, a smile on my face.
Morning routine completed, off I went, clueless.

From a distance I could hear sounds like thunder boom, my heart beat, irregular.
Body and soul burning, I couldn’t feel me.
Struggling for breath, struggling to move, but legs cribbed.
Then I became blank to the world..

Men in white, I thought were angels surrounded me.
Aloe Vera gel, cotton swabs, drugs
didn’t help…
Spirit watching,wailing,
struggling to reach out to me…
Then I heard the words…..

Words certifying I could no longer
live and achieve.
Words capable of tormenting family and friends.
Words pronounced without remorse.
Words… Just these words:shes gone.

Wailing filled the air.
