A lot of you guys lamenting about MTN and its subcontractors would have been multimillionaires only if you got lawyers to sue them or report them to the regulators.

For instance, deduction of pension without remittance to the PFA is a criminal offence which attracts heavy penalties but you prefer to come online and lament.

The day Nigerians start suing MTN, Electricity companies, Police, Government Hospitals, Banks, utility providers and service providers, a lot of them would pay you hefty millions and sit up.

You're right

The hard part was having to read all the other stoopid pple speaking against the NLC's weak and belated action.

What's the value of a few broken LCD Screens and chairs to thousands of pple beggared and enslaved in their own country whilst everyone else is making progress. I personally assisted 2 chicks to cross over from MTN to Civil Defence in 2012 and was just as ignorant as these lot up there concerning Industrial Labor Relations within MTN, only thing I want waving my ignorance in everybody's face.

The exploitation is real and when you add the impunity of outsourcing agencies like ISON BPO, the stress level triples.

I pray Nigeria generally gets its shyt together because pple are being literally butchered on all fronts with no one to fight for them or mourn them. Heck, from all these shitty comments sef, Nigerians don't even love Nigerians.

This is a strategy to gain public sympathy and mislead the people. Let's discuss the issues concerning the exploitation of workers.
Everyone is quoting international labour's standard for picketing but no one is talking about internationally acceptable working condition and wages guideline.
Let this be a lesson to other exploiters as well. We should watch out, slavery is back. It is either we deal with it or live with it.

This long epistle is a hatchet ghost writer for MTN

Has MTN not in itself violated ILO on unionism? Mtn that uses overt and covert threats to staff who dare join union aren't in violation of ILO rules? NLC no even picket dem reach

Do you know this for a fact or you were told?

Have you ever worked as MTN staff?

what salary were they told they would earn before they joined?

As long as they accepted the salary before joining and were not forced at gunpoint to accept the job, then no wrong has been done.
Why don't you shut up, if you never worked in the system u can never understand, have u heard of corporate modern day slavery, when you sign 8hr that becomes 10hrs due to huddle sessions that form part of your monthly performances, you are not allowed to join Union that fight for you, whatever decision is shoved down your throat take it or get out , morning shift initially starts 7am later returned to 6;15am when people resume by 8am afternoon then closed by 8pm later shifted to 11:15pm when people are sleeping, some people sleep in d office cos they can risk going home that late some lost their phones n valuables with slaps late night all d Indian company will say is resign if u can't,, people left Kaduna to Oyo rented house cos on first coming you will think you have gotten a good job, chilling open space office,, health insurance, transport with police escort, 3 months later when you work like a German machine and begins to look leaner than you came, 34k month end no savings reality down see sacking anyhow u will begin to regret all the money for transport n accommodation it will take you 1yr to recoup many people resigned, 6month- 1yr abandoned their accommodation counted their loses n move on, some went back home empty while some quit for NPower, as at the time I left within 2yrs based on a report I saw over 1600 had either resigned or were fired One thousand six hundred not 160. it got so bad they will come on the floor n tell you if you have a brother or friend that wants to work call them to come start training no interview, they know labour market is saturated so they can hire n fire no Union to checkmate them. bro I can type their atrocities from now till tomorrow but they did not put gun on our head.

Nigerians needs to go and read about outsourcing.

If your company deliver a service for another company, you are the staff of your primary employer

ISON BPO staff are not MTN staff.

The fact is that MTN is not fair to Nigerian staff; they take advantage of unemployment in the country. It is so easy to speak grammar against NLC actions while no words of reprimand are spared against MTN excesses. I support any action taken against mtn even though my two major Sims are mtn

You are still not working for mtn.

Your employment letter has nothing to do with mtn. The fact that your company renders service to mtn does not make you mtn staff.

A lot of other company render outsourced service, all cannot be claiming mtn staff.

Computer warehouse (CWG) is a good example.

NLC should picket those companies directly not mtn.

FYI, some oursourced vendors actually pay their staff better than mtn does.

We need to let people know the issues correctly so a solution can be found to all anomally.

Real mtn staff are not the ones complaining and this NLC needs to know.

It like saying all Halogen security people we see in banks are the banks staff when we all know the banks juat approached a security company to provide a service.

If Halogen is not paying well, are you going to shut down the banks or Halogen security ?

Now you are speaking some truths.

MTN cannot be compelled to to alter HR policies of independent organizations that render service. What NLC should have done is shut down ISON BPO which in turns affects MTN, then MTN will be asked not to do business with organizations with low HR standards. It is that simple. NLC talked about MTN staff in all their claims, and you and I know MTN pays and treats her employees well..is that not deliberate misinformation if everyone keeps shouting MTN.

In your example above, if you were been asked to do a task that is really outside your scope or overtime without compensation, that must be reported to your parent company. And by the way, MTN pays overtime for every hour worked outside normal working time.

Why must MTN be in fore front of an issue that has to do with independent companies. If Julius Beger does not pay well and they are doing construction work for FG. Is it ministry of works that you will shut down or Julius berger? Are you a FG staff because all the projects you have been on in Julius Berger are FG projects?

So many examples abound. The underlying issue here is Nigerians herd mentality. MTN and its staffs are not complaining and there will be no headway with companies like ISON BPO if they are not talked to directly. NLC is also eager to do this because of their own pockets. If you think they are fighting for workers right, then we are on a long thing.

I can give you 1000 companies that are even worse than ISON BPO, because they bribe NLC, no one hears anything.

If we want to fight for better working conditions, we must target the real culprits not the guys we think will give us more money.

Your rantings are difficult to read. Lots of white space next time, please. Good communication skills would increase your employment options in future. You won't have to look up to useless unions or blame mtn for maximizing profits.

By the way, which employer would employ you with this uncouth attitude? If employment conditions are unfair, you resign or go to court (if you have a case), not type this woe-is-me wall of text that you have typed.

P. S. Unions are a scourge on business. Oshiomole claimed to be fighting for workers. Today, Oshiomole is a former governor and a leading politician. Where are the workers? Only someone without foresight would be depending on unions and fairness from a business. It's a business, man.

ISON BPO and others like CNSSL bided for the contact, ISON offered a lower cost to deliver the services, if they feel human resources cost can be optimized, that is still not MTN.

It is the Nigerian situation of massive unemployment that makes graduates work in call centers, it is a job meant for High school leavers. Forget sentiments, you cannot force an employer to pay more from your own perspective alone. When telecos were cutting prices of calls and other services, eventually, some cost will be optimized, that is business. And yes, people that think they deserve more should be bold enough to leave. That is the most profound statement underpaid employees can make.

I am more involved than you know and still is. I am talking from a management and business owner position. Worked in telecom's sector for more than 11yrs....

There will always be perspective of employees, employers and business owners. We need to balance both.

How many trade unions are there in
India?
Statistics on Trade Unions are
collected annually by the Labour
Bureau of the Ministry of Labour,
Government of India. As per the
latest data, released for 2012, there
were 16,154 trade unions which
had a combined membership of
9.18 million

Labour unions in Japan,
with a combined membership of
7,395,666 workers ,

NTUC, which forms the majority of the
labour movement in Singapore,
represents over 800,000 workers in
Singapore across more than 70 unions,
affiliated associations and related
organisations.

Oga get your facts na, any country without labour or trade Union will be violating ILO convention's and workers in those countries will be terribly exploited

Yes, we need foreign investment but anybody bringing his or her money to Nigeria to invest is not doing it because of special love for Nigeria, it is because their feasibility report shows such investment to be viable and that the investor is ready to comply with the law of the host country.

If MTN thinks it can hide under ILO on this matter, the company has missed it. The same company is becoming notorious for violating law. We remember how the company took the law on registration of subscribers for granted untill NCC slammed it with huge penalty. This lead them to start negotiation and unfortunately they got huge concession. Now it is violation of Labourer law. . I can't but hail the NLC for waking up to her responsibilities. Irresponsible corporate entity like MTN deserves no form of mercy. Indeed, South African that are killing Nigerians in thier country wouldn't care to invade Nigerian firms and kill Nigerian workers if the firm ever made attempt to violate law like MTN is doing in Nigeria.
