The Abuja light rail was initially scheduled to be completed in 3 months time.... It took Buhari 3 years to complete it. If this doesn't show you the level of incompetence in this government, I don't know what will.

Counterpart funding for the project had been provided 100%. The project was all but complete by may 2015.

The annoying this is how buhari and his minions are taking credit for something they absolutely had no part in.

This is the PM report on this project on May 2015 during GEJs inspection.....

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday urged the incoming Buhari administration to continue to boost the railway system as the cheapest and most effective mode of mass transit in the country.

The president said this when he inspected the ongoing construction of the National Railway Terminal at Idu and the Abuja light rail transit system.

Mr. Jonathan was accompanied by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Bala Mohammed, and the Minister of State, Olajumoke Akinjide.

The team boarded a train from Ring Road 2 Light Rail Station around Jabi and went on a ten-minute ride to Idu Transfer Station.

On arrival at the transfer station which is still under construction, Mr. Jonathan received a briefing from officials of the FCT and the construction firm, CCECC, before inspecting facilities at the station.

The president told reporters that the Light Rail project was important for Nigerians particularly Abuja residents and therefore, dismissed fears that it could be abandoned by the incoming administration.

He said he personally inspected the progress of the work on the project in order to know what exactly to tell Mr. Buhari when both of them meet later to hold discussions.

Mr. Jonathan stressed the importance of rail transport to the mass transportation system in the country, adding that the project would make movement of people and goods easy for the residents of Abuja and the environs.

He said he was impressed with the level of work on the rail project and specially commended the FCT ministers and the contractors handling the job for their efforts.

“I emphasised the need for rail system in terms of developing an effective mass transit in any nation,” Mr. Jonathan said.

“When we are talking about mass transit, you cannot talk about it using taxis, small cars, even the luxurious buses. It will be too expensive.

“We want our rail system to work and that’s why we are emphasising intercity and intra-city, normal rail and intra city light rail systems.

“Of course, this government is leaving on the 29th. The incoming government will definitely continue because this is a noble project to Nigerians especially residents of the FCT.

“We are quite appreciative of the level of cooperation. The CCECC has been doing very well and of course, the ministry of the Federal Capital Territory. They are doing wonderfully well.

“I’m quite impressed. I have been longing to come and inspect the project for a very long time but for challenges in terms of my commitments.

“I think, this period, I really need to so that when I am having conversation with the incoming president, I will know exactly what to tell him because I have seen it myself, I have seen the level of completion.

“Of course, you know the usefulness of this project in terms of easing the movement of the people in the Federal Capital Territory. I have to congratulate Nigerians for this project.”

Speaking, the FCT Minister, Mr. Mohammed assured that the rail project would be completed by August this year as all equipment needed for its completion have been delivered.

He said the Jonathan administration was able to secure a $500 millon facility for the project while the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P, provided N20billion counterpart funding.

“Right now we have taken up to 61 percent of the sum. We do not have so much of financing challenges except for the next fiscal year which has been accommodated in the budget,” Mr. Mohammed stated.

Mr. Jonathan had also inspected the newly rehabilitated and expanded 10-lane Airport Road named after the former boss, late Umaru Yar’Adua.

The road project is part of the Outer Southern Expressway and Outer Northern Expressway that were awarded by late Mr. Yar’Adua at the cost of N257 billion.

The contract was separately awarded to Messrs Julius Berger, Dantata, and Sawoe and CGC Nigeria Limited.

The facts are there in black and white. Buhari commissioned a project that was all but completed by the last administration without giving even half a credit to them. Everything for the completion of this project had been provided before hand yet it took him 3 years to commission something that was due in 3 months.

And I'm saying that the person that completed it should give credit to the people that started and all but completed.

The last runner in a relay race doesn't take credit for the race.

More so as buhari had to do absolutely nothing but allow the project to run its course. The contractors were already mobilized, all equipment shipped in... All monies paid.

Exactly. But give credit to who its due. If its in castigating the last administration, you would see Buhari gallivanting but when its time to give credit to them he goes mute. That is dangerous politics.

APC dont have wat it takes or needed to unite Nigeria/Nigerians...... dia foolish pride wouldn't allow them to set the records straight concerning dis rail project.... A simple statement like; 'we will make sure we complete any project that was started by the previous administration if such project is of any economic importance to our people' would have been enough!

Nah i'm not throwing stones. I'm putting the records straight so history doesnt get re-written or erased. Thats the noble thing to do.

We are saying that Buhari shouldn't claim this as his project because it isn't. He couldn't have abandoned a project that is more than 90% complete with everything to complete it already in place.....he's not a mad man.

He should give credit to the people that labored to conceived, initiated, financed and handed this project over to him. Governance is a continuum.

A fully completed house without one window is still not completed. What I want to know is the level of completedness buhari brought to the project.

all pmb had to do was acknowledge the efforts of others.

all these efforts to erase the efforts of past administrations is counter productive. if you want people to appreciate your good works, you should learn to appreciate the good works of others.

how will pmb feel if when he is booted out in 2019, another government comes in, adds 3 schools to the school feeding programme, then announces that it has delivered on its school feeding programme?

So a contractor that has been fully paid with all necessary equipment in place (according to you), decided to stop work because Buhari did not appoint minister on till after 6 month? So why didn't they complete it 3 months after the ministers were appointed?

Dude it's like you don't know how government projects work. All projects are stopped once there is a new government...ALL. Its only left for the new government to give a go ahead or not. Same way Yaradua refused to clear turbines imported by Obasanjo and allowed them go to waste....Think about it, just clearing equipment that had been imported already.

For your second question, maybe Buhari Looted the money meant for the project or probably took another 2 years to ascertain the 'corruption' in the project. That question is for incompetent buhari to answer
