President Buhari Lauds Educational Ties Between Nigeria And Belarus

Education is the veritable doorway through which the boundless potentials of youths can be positively harnessed for the benefit of society, and the country at large, said President Muhammadu Buhari. The President made the declaration Thursday at State House, Abuja, while receiving the outgoing Ambassador of Belarus, His Excellency Vyacheslav Beskosty, who has spent over six years in Nigeria as the pioneer Ambassador of his country.

"I am impressed by your successful tour of duty, particularly in the area of educational ties between our countries. Over 600 young Nigerians are in your country, trying to guarantee a better future for themselves through education," President Buhari said. He added that the relationship between Nigeria and Belarus was sure to grow stronger in the years ahead.

Ambassador Beskosty said Nigeria had "big potential for economic cooperation" with his country, adding that military and technical ties were equally proceeding satisfactorily. Noting that agricultural development was on the priority list of the Buhari administration, he added that Belarus, as the world's biggest producer of fertilizers, and a giant in production of tractors "has a great role to play in the bid to achieve food self-sufficiency" in Nigeria.

The outgoing Ambassador commended the Buhari administration for its service to the nation, noting that people were already seeing significant changes in the country.

Thanks for sharing

Indeed education and career development are key to productive societies.

It's good to know you have an idea of the number of young Nigerians over there.

Of course we need to keep working to make sure the people in the diaspora meet a better country when they are back.

Thanks again

Lol. There are no educational "ties" between both countries. A tie is essentially an exchange; but there are no Belorussian students in any Nigerian universities. On the flip-side, Belorussian universities have hundreds of Nigerian students.

I think Belarus, Ukraine, Republic of Georgia, Turkey, Cyprus, North Cyprus and Russia are trying when it comes to granting of admission and student visa to African student.

Their tuition fees is relatively cheap compared to International studies in Australia, Canada, USA, United Kingdom, Ireland, etc

Also, it is not easy to secure visa to most of the mentioned western countries for International Studies.

So, I think the federal government is right in commending Belarus contribution to International studies with respect to Nigerian and African students.

But the federal government and state government must also contribute their own part in making education cheap and affordable preferably making education free at all level.

It was only Chief Obafemi Awolowo ( the late sage ) who recognized the need to make education free at all level in Nigeria and he made it a cardinal point of his party's manifestos.

Unfortunately, present day politicians in Nigeria are not interested in making education free for Nigerian student even though some of them enjoyed Chief Obafemi Awolowo 's free education to the university level courtesy of his Unity Party of Nigeria programme ( UPN )

Present day politicians prefer to embezzle the money meant for free education rather than make it available for poor Nigerian parents.

In Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE education is free and they are oil producing countries like Nigeria.

IF NIGERIA IS TO BE A GREAT NATION THEN EDUCATION MUST BE MADE FREE AT ALL LEVEL.

The popular slogan that Nigeria does not have money due to falling oil prices of crude oil at the international market is totally false.

Think about the money realised from Abacha loot, Patience Jonathan loot, Deziani loot, Sambo Dasuki 's loot.

WE HAVE PLENTY OF MONEY IN NIGERIA AND THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY KNOWS THIS BUT OUR PROBLEM IS THAT WE HAVE A WICKED GENERATION OF POLITICAL LEADERS IN NIGERIA WHO ARE GREEDY, SELF CENTRED, POSSESSIVE, ETC
