Perhaps, doing a factory reset may be of help? If no go, then u'd probably have to reload the firmware. Are the PS3 CDs scratched or anything like that?

I believe something went wrong somewhere but I strongly believe updating your PS3 firmware with firmware update from sony website will solve the problem. Something similar happened to me but, in my own case I could not play some new games like FIFA 2010 etc when they just came out. I just did firmware update shikena
