Presidential Adviser on Niger Delta and former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Corporation, NDDC, Mr. Timi Alaibe was today beaten up in Calabar the cross River State capital by militants who were protesting what they termed the deceit in the Federal government's Amnesty program.

Sources informed Pointblanknews.com that while addressing militants in Calabar as part of the second phase pf the Amnesty program, angry militants pounced on Alaibe and gave him the beating of his life. His security operatives including policemen who were said to have been over powered by the angry militants took to their heels grin grin, leaving behind the former NDDC boss. He was said to have been dragged to an unknown destination by the militants.

Another source however hinted pointblanknews.com that it took the intervention of armed soldiers to locate Alaibe but his where about is still unknown as at press time.

Three SUV's belonging to Alaibe and his entourage were vandalized during the mayhem.
However, when Pointblanknews.com contacted Mr. Alaibe on phone he was said to be in a meeting and cannot take calls.

Militants 1 0 ND Polithieves grin grin
this is what I call a good scoreline. But he is worshiped in Bayelsa State as the long awaited messiah angry
meanwhile in all his years representing Bayelsa state on the NDDC board, there is no tangible project to show for it, except in his hometown Opokuma, constructed roads, did land reclamation, built standard jetty, electrification of the entire community, gave the NDDC buses, bikes, cars, contracts etc to little boys who don't know what to do with the new found free booty.

I know they will come here and start posting rub.bish. Bring it on, I am waiting.

Shame on Alaibe.
I see he is denying being beaten. Joker.

I just feel sorry for Cross River State because this will affect all the branding and tourism. Who wants to holiday next to a militant camp?

Post-amnesty: Ex-militants attack Alaibe

Indications emerged on Thursday that the Presidential Adviser on Niger Delta and Chairman of the Federal Government Amnesty Committee, Mr. Timi Alaibe, was attacked by aggrieved ex-militants undergoing rehabilitation at the National Youth Service Corps Orientation camp, Obubra, Cross River State

Our correspondent gathered that Alaibe, who was escorted by armed security operatives, arrived the centre at about 5pm, having gone there on a familiarisation tour and to have pep talks with the ex-militants. It was gathered that Alaibe was also billed to address the ex-militants and introduce the rehabilitation and re-integration programme to them in an induction ceremony, which began on Thursday morning.

The ex-militants, who had earlier begun the ceremony with officials of the Foundation for Ethnic Harmony in Nigeria, were assembled in eight different halls when Alaibe arrived.

But protesting poor allowances, the repentant militants pounced on the presidential adviser and rough-handled him before they also destroyed the windscreen of his car and damaged other cars in the complex.

Our correspondent gathered that the furious ex-militants had planned to take Alaibe and some top government functionaries in the camp hostage to demonstrate their seriousness. They were said to have rained abuses on him and hurled missiles at him and other dignitaries in the camp.

But it was learnt that the security operatives successfully ferried Alaibe and other dignitaries away to Calabar.

It was gathered that the anger of the ex-militants stemmed from claims that the Federal Government refused to pay them the allowances they had been promised before the commencement of the rehabilitation programme.

They were said to have claimed that the Federal Government promised to provide financial cover of N350, 000 for each ex-militant before kick-starting the rehabilitation programme.

A source from the camp said the ex-militants were not happy that the government started the programme without paying attention to their welfare and providing for their families.

It was learnt that the boys became uncontrollable when Alaibe told them that they were only entitled to N10,000 each after the two weeks training programme. But the ex-militants were expecting more than the amount as they said the main issues that led to the amnesty and the surrendering of their guns had been ignored.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, said it was by a stroke of luck that Alaibe escaped being held hostage by the ex-militants at the camp. “The boys are not happy with the way the programme started after much procrastination. They said the government should have considered their welfare and those of their families before starting the programme. They really attacked Alaibe, but security operatives saved the situation”, he said.

Another top leader of the militants, who spoke with one of our correspondents, said the boys were angry because they felt that the promises that followed the amnesty programme had been jettisoned by the Federal Government. The source added that the camp had no potable water, which also contributed to the aggression of the former militants. “The ex-militants became angry because some people told them that the federal government had approved N350,000 each for their housing allowance. But, this is not true. Such money was not part of the programme,” he said.

Speaking with one of our correspondents on the phone, Alaibe denied being beaten up by the ex-militants, saying that he was okay and was in his office in Calabar.

He said, “I believe that there is a political dimension to the whole thing. I mean this claim that I was attacked. If you come to my office, you will see that there is nothing like that. It was only about 10 of the boys who were demanding what they were not promised. But the place is calm and lectures are going on now.”

Good on the Militants. Its more than about time. I see no reason why these national and international thief thiefs will enrich themselves with our money but instead of subjecting them to a well earned punishment we attack and harm ourselves and blameless fellow hard working and long suffering citizens.

Thank you militants. beat but do not kill more and if possible all of them. That will teach them a big lesson and kick their blasted heads into gear. Again if you kill them it will be an easy way out. they need to be stripped of their wealth and their celebrity status disgracefully. It will be nice if people are e also brave enough to torch their mansions and ensure that they never put them up again. it may force them and their children to live in holes and tatch houses like many other hard working Nigerians and bring them back to their senses

See The Nation article below. Alaibes propaganda machine is up and running! Do we believe the Punch? The stories are so different.
I believe it.
The question is why is Alaibe making noise about the "political dimensions" of the attack when he is one of the chief players in this dangerous dance in the Niger Delta? Having run for various posts and being at daggers drawn with Sylva and even never really on terms with Goodluck why is he the best man for this position. Throughout the first stages of Amnesty have you heard of militants attacking any of the committee members?

Im afraid Liyel Imoke is in for a rough ride and is completely out of his depth with what he has unleashed in his state at this delicate campaign time where youth are already primed for violence. Goodbye cross river tourism. Whatever they promised him I hope its worth throwing away investments by keeping this camp in his state.

Alaibes denials are sad. That theres an attack no matter how small, whether sponsored or not in a camp with international trainers is a sign to Goodluck that he needs to offload baggage ridden parasites like Alaibe where sensitive and serious issues are concerned.

Ex-militant leader summoned to Abuja over invasion of post-amnesty camp
Font size: By Augustine Avwode 03/07/2010 01:27:00

Security has been tightened in and around the Post-Amnesty and Reintegration Camp in Obubra, Cross River State following the invasion of the camp by suspected hoodlums.

The invaders, it was learnt, made an unsuccessful attempt to cause mayhem in the camp on Thursday, a move that was promptly countered by some vigilant ex-militants among those currently undergoing training in the camp.

The Nation gathered that about 10 suspected hoodlums attempted to disrupt the training session

The incident which caused panic following the counter move to repel the invasion has already been reported to the presidency which also ordered a thorough investigation of the ugly incident.

Also, our source revealed that an ex-militant leader from Bayelsa State has been summoned to Abuja to explain his alleged role in the botched invasion of the camp.

And nine ex-militants alleged to be masterminds of the security scare have been expelled from the reintegration camp while another has been placed under security surveillance by the camp authorities.

A source from the camp said: "We were in our classes on Thursday morning when suddenly some boys, about 10, just appeared from nowhere and they started singing solidarity songs. We thought they were part of us and probably trying to make the atmosphere livelier, but they soon started singing war songs, abusing everybody including the president and even other facilitators. But they did not stop there, they made to forcibly enter the classes.

"It was at this point that some of us felt we should do something, at least to protect ourselves. So we engaged them and drove them out, and some had injuries."

The source added that the actions of the hoodlums clearly have political undertone. He expressed dismay that opposition to the post amnesty programme has been most vociferous from the most unlikely quarters just to score cheap political point.

"The amnesty and post amnesty programme are all matters for the federal government. It is not a state thing and I see no reason why it should be politicized. Whatever political persuasion we hold, individually, such be buried for the success of the post amnesty programme. This is not the place for such differences to manifest," our source fumed.

Reacting to the development, Coordinator of the Post Amnesty Programme and Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Mr Timi Alaibe, said the situation had been brought is under control.

"The situation is under control, we are determined to succeed and if anybody has decided to use these boys, I can assure you that they cannot scuttle this programme. We are well past the stage of failure, our plan is to make a success of this are we will succeed’ he vowed.

The regular police have since been replace by riot policemen at the camp where about 2000 ex-militants are undergoing training and further rehabilitation.

Firstly, I'm not a politician and i dont think i have to be one to post anything in this section. Secondly, I never boasted that i believed everything in the story or not, as u are implying. Thirdly, i quoted the source of my information in order to absolve myself of any insult from people like u who would rather attack the poster instead of carrying out their personal research to confirm or disprove a story.
