Kunle Afolayan has confessed to not watching much of Nollywood movies because he's keen on watching movies that can challenge him.

In a chat with TheCable, the filmmaker said he hardly watch Nigeria movies because he’s keen on watching movies that will challenge him and change his orientation about certain things in life.

He made the statement while responding to a question on his take on badly subtitled movies shown in Nigeria.

His words:,

“…Truth be told, I hardly watch them because I am keen on watching movies that will challenge me and change my orientation about certain things. My children watch them a lot and that does not make them speak bad English.”

Same here.

I will start watching Nollywood movies when they start making Sci-fi and action movies and not all these love story, village people babalawo movies that reduce one's IQ.

I don't even watch any. Everything's the same... Boring/uninspiring/talentless casts, predictable storylines, irritating sound tracks, third world production... I'm done, biko. I wouldn't sit to watch clowns like that Destiny Etiko and Roseline Murere or whatever she calls herself.

Hehe.. I support him. Though I hardly see movies.
Most Nollywood movies have nothing to offer, even the supposed entertainment we ought to get is nothing. Not to sound tribalistic but those Igbo Nollywood movies are the worse.. Hian.. Long, usual and boring storylines. The Yoruba ones and their subtitles na die grin Every actress is white, every problem is diabolical and no professionalism.. I saw one yesterday where a lady at the background of the scene was battling with a system just to log in to the system that is supposedly hers. She kept punching and punching grin
The ones from the North eh, I manage to read the subtitles but they are just like Indian movies too.. Too long and dull.

Regardless, I appreciate them and I know the industry can always get better.

Hollywood sci-fi movies all the way for me.. Those are the movies that portray the realities we don't realize cheesy

I think people who watch Indian, Korean, Phillipino and some Telemundo movies should not criticize Nollywood though. grin
