The Action Congress will not select its presidential candidate based on any zoning arrangement, the National Publicity Secretary of the Party , Lai Mohammed has said.

Mr Mohammed said this yesterday in Ado Ekiti during a visit by the leadership of the party to the state. He informed members that the party has pegged the age limit for its presidential candidate to 50.

"AC is not interested in zoning where the candidate would emerge from, but on ability," he said. "[The] Action Congress will not field any politician older than 50 years old as its presidential candidate in the next general election in 2011."

Mr Mohammed added the party's arrangement will throw the ruling Peoples Democratic Party into confusion, as it moves to draw in more youth into politics.

"We have a policy in place which will ensure that youth leaders are not older than 30 years. We need to move forward in this country.

"We need a president who is agile, a president who will be able to move quickly. People are able to give their best in their prime," he said.

"We want to take over the Presidency by 2011. We have been holding talks with other political parties because we know that those who we are dealing with are dishonest and are ready to hold on to power by all illegal means."

Similarly, Tajudeen Olusi, the National Vice Chairman of the AC in South West, said young people should be encouraged to participate in politics.

"People like Chief Obafemi Awolowo was not up to 50 years of age when he became the premier of Western Region," he said.

Building coalitions

Mr Mohammed explained that the party has had held discussions with Muhammadu Buhari, Atiku Abubakar, Athahiru Bafarawa and some aggrieved members of the PDP and that this informs its decision to change its name ‘from Action Congress to Action Congress of Nigeria'. The change, he said, will be effected by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

If AC wants a landslide victory, they should just present T. Fashola. A bad Fashola is a million times better than a good IBB. Jonathan is not even a match when compared to Fashola.
IF PDP wants to give Fashola a good fight, they should present R. Amaechi. It will be a real battle then, cos voters like me will become confused about who to vote for.
However, they will not even be considered. The Political system in Nigeria needs a Lulu/Ogunjobi treatment.

Depends, Fashola might be great for Lagos but on a national scale where almost everything is done on regional representation it might not be that rosy

Politics in Nigeria is funny, A yoruba man is more appealing to northerners than Amaechi,SW will be more informed about transformation in Lagos than PH, politicians can easily dig up dirt about Amaechi even with his 'good' works in PH

This is the part i still dont get with AC, why are they desperate for these sort of people even though they claim the are moving away from politics of old

Ac should go further by annoucing their presidential candidates now and also include more women in their set up, not just releasing statements from My lai M, they are almost invincible, they should buy inton some newspapers or TV stations to get more publicity instead of beng holed up in Lagos

AC will be dead on arrival if they bring Fasola as their presidential candidate. He may be doing physical infrastructure stuff but he lacks human rights and citizenship qualities. He deported fellow Nigerians from Nigeria, especially northerners. No SANE northerner will vote for him.

ooohH!! suddenly, everyone is "dropping" their zoning agreement in PUBLIC. lol

AC should start cleaning up their house now and if that means getting rid of Tinubu, I would think it a great move considering that man's records continues to hunt him and everyone he associates with.

As for candidates, they need not pick up one of those who have shown themselves good at the state level. AGBERO politics can work at the state level but at the national level it is nothing short of a militocracy/dictatorship. Ask Idiagbon and Buhari. lol

CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! CHANGE has come to AC. !!!!!!!!!! grin grin grin
yes they have included an "N" in their name.
The party is the most progressive party in the country. Afterall which other party can claim to have changed its name in every election cycle. from AD to AC to ACN.

Don't know why nobody has told them that moving from APP to ANPP did not do much for Buhari's party.

I still do not get why Nigerians deceive themselves that there is any semblance of practiced democracy in Nigeria. Is it that the failure of our country has so hunted us that we are prepared to cling to fantasies of credible elections so we do not lose our sanity. Lets be clear: Almost no election is free or fair in Nigeria. Election in Nigeria is not a matter of party ideology or candidate capability, its a matter of which party is more able to rig than the other and which judge decides your case at the electoral tribunal. Politicians, especially those in PDP, do not necessarily need your vote to come to power. If they did, they will take the governance of this country more seriously.

It's for the same reason we need to booth PDP out of outlives so that we can witness serious and responsive govt.
