A 28-year-old man has been arraigned before an Ebute-Meta Magistrate's Court, Lagos, for allegedly killing a teenager and tying him to a tree.

The accused, Mr. Sonayon Kusa, was alleged to have killed Nurudeen Adedimeji by giving him fist blow all over his body, resulting in his death.

Kusa was said to have after killing the deceased, tied him to a tree in his compound, ostensibly to make it look as if the deceased committed suicide.

But luck ran out on him when Adedimeji's decomposing body started to ooze profusely, thereby drawing the attention of the neigbours who raised the alarm and informed the police.

Police subsequently arrested the suspect and after investigation charged him to court.

The charge sheet obtained by our correspondent on Wednesday said the murder took place on June 29 in the evening hours on Wevi Street, Ikoga Zebbe, Badagry, Lagos.

The one-count charge sheet reads, "That you Sonayon Kusa, male, 28, on June 29, 2010, at about 5pm at Wevi Street, Ikoga Zebbe, Badagry, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District did unlawfully kill one Nurudeen Adedimeji, male, by giving him fist blow all over his body.

"Thereafter, you tied his body to a tree and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap. 17 Vol. II laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003."

The Magistrate, Mrs. K.O. Doja-Ojo, did not take the plea of the accused but remanded him in prison custody pending the advice of the state's Director of Public Prosecution.

She adjourned the matter to September 10, 2010 for further hearing.

Meanwhile, the Lagos Police Command on Tuesday said it had arrested a member of a five-man robbery gang that raided the Christ Chosen Church of God on Friday.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, said that the gang invaded the church at Alafia, Orile area of Lagos at about 2.10am during a prayer vigil.

He said during the raid, the ministers and congregation were dispossessed of their valuables including offering, handsets and wrist watches.

The police spokesman said that while the operation was going on, a distress call was made to the Orile police station, which immediately responded and stormed the scene.

"As soon as the gang was aware of the presence of the police, they opened gun fire, which was returned and one of the suspects was arrested while four others escaped,'' Mba said.

He said one locally- made revolver pistol and some ammunition were recovered from the suspect.

He said that the suspect had made useful statement that would help the police to track down those at large.

Mba said the case had been transferred to the state CID, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.
