Mercedes-Benz reveals stylish new CLS


Mercedes-Benz has released images of the new CLS prior to its Paris Motor Show debut next month.

The CLS replaces the original that was introduced in 2003, which has sold 170,000 examples worldwide.

The second generation CLS continues the 'four-door coupé' idea introduced in the original, so its rakish styling is backed up with the comfort and functionality of a saloon.

Still recognisably a CLS, Mercedes' designers have updated its lines with a bolder front grille and headlamps and a far more dramatic feature line down its flanks.

The CLS's design is reminiscent of the Shooting Break concept unveiled by Mercedes-Benz at the Auto China show earlier this year.

As with the exterior the cabin is all about style, with the familiar wrap-around cockpit feel and two individual seats in the rear.

Mercedes has yet to announce any details on engines and transmissions, but the CLS is likely to be introduced with a 3.5-litre V6 direct injection petrol, a 5.4-litre V8 petrol and a 3.0-litre turbodiesel - all mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission.
