So, you think you than speak Hausa? Showcase your skills using Hausa parables and Proverbs (Habanci). Here are few for starters:



Sai bango ya tsage, kadangare yake shiga.
Meaning: It is only when a wall cracks, that a lizard enters it.
Explanation: Humiliation/embarrassments  occurs where one fails to protect/respect  his/her pride.

Shiru ma magana ne.
Meaning: Silence is also talking.
Explanation: One does not have to utter a word  in order to make him/herself understood.

Rabon kwado, baya hawan sama
Meaning: A frog share, does not ascend the skies.
Explanation: That which you destined share, would surely come to you.

Komin nisan jifa, kasa zai fado
Meaning: No matter how far one throws (an item), it (surely) would return to earth.
Explanation: often used to portray a futile act.

Ra'ayi riga ne, kowa da irin tasa.
Meaning: Opinion is a clothe, everyone has his/her own.
Explanation: Every person is entitled to his/her own opinion.

Gyara kayan ka, bai zama sauke mu raba ba.
Meaning: Repair your luggage (as told), does not translate to sharing your luggages.
Explanation: Motives behind a given advise are not (necessarily) selfish, and could only be for the benefit of the advised.  This proverb is sometimes used after an advise to remind the advised  of this fact.

Ruwa ba sa'an kwando bane
Meaning: Water is (verily) no match for Basket.
