PLEASE YOUR SINCERE ADVICE...Hi guys... been contemplating between a 2008 e350 or 2008 ml350. Finally got a got deal from a friend for a 2009 ml350. Car is clean from what I've seen. He does actually take care of his cars. Problem is just that the cd doesn't play. And has a small crack on the windscreen. Also the booth doesn't close (recently). Said his mechanic said the booth repair will gulp 35k. actually want to be adviced on its reliability. It's at 80k miles. Plan to close the deal next week. I'm in the construction industry so move about a lot too.

I drive a c280 1996. Nice ride with considerable power. My car goes off when the fuel gauge is exactly on half tank. it happened almost four times with adverse loss of energy, time and money until I discovered it occurs when the fuel tank is on half.
Now, I fill up the tank regularly with no trouble but it's tasking stopping regularly for gas when on long journeys which I do constantly because of the nature of my job. A kazeem recommended replacement of the tank with cost implication of 30k.
Any contrary opinion please? Thanks

. . . . tank is cheap. Your vehicle has 'dual-like' compartment. I experienced something similar but not at half mark but lower and it was rectified after a wash.

If your fuel-pump and gauges are working properly you might need to have your mechanic bring down the fuel tank and give it a wash. For this task, the whole suspension at the rear has to come down.

@inze: thanks bro. I thought he was exaggerating when he said its a day's job to remove the tank and that's why he said it is better to replace instead of managing it. He's of the opinion that washing might not totally solve the problem.
I got a quote of 25k for the tank and he's talking 5k for workmanship.
Please,is there any special washing unit or the regular car wash guys are just OK?

. . . mine 'was' a 1996 C180. Don't know if there's any difference between both but i sure do know that i got it for less than 5k some years back and i doubt if the price have cut across the said 25k now because people rarely replace their fuel tank in that model (so reliable)

You have a bad fuel filter, even if you change or wash d tank the problem will not go away.

not true. The fuel filter is one of the things I replaced when I got the car last december before this issue came up.
Besides, a bad filter won't wait till the fuel gauge gets to midpoint before malfunctioning.

the prblm your car has is d fuel sender its blocked so your car uses only one side of the fuel in the tank instead of using both tanks, talking from experience, any good technician would be able to detect dis too...

i totally agree with you. that's exactly what my mechanic said. my coming here is to know whether it is rectifiable or I should just buy another tank.
