Teenage Nigerian weightlifter Augustina Nkem Nwaokolo has won the first gold medal of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi in the women's 48kg division.

The 17-year-old set a new Games record of 175kg after lifting 77kg in the snatch and 98kg in the clean and jerk to upset home favourite Soniya Chanu.

The Indian twice failed to lift the 103kg she needed to take gold and had to settle for silver with 167kg.

Fellow Indian Sandhya Rani finished third with an aggregate of 165kg.

All you posters, why always negative and salacious comments full of innuendos.
She is under strain and stress. haven't you noticed that the athletes look so pretty/handsome when you see them on the podium - so different from when they are actually running, jumping etc. If you were to see a pix of her in relaxation mode she would look younger/prettier. Besides haven't you met people who look younger/older than their ages?? Pls give us a break.

Since she contested for the 48kg and not the 17 years old category i think she did well and deserved the gold, and some people who have not done anything good for their streets should just shut up and clap.

Hey look here guys, Commonwealth Games is not a age group events. Everybody is competing at the same level (15 - 100yrs). And as for the facial expression, this is what happens when you push your physical capability to the limit and it has nothing to do with age. Very good job, Augustina Nkem Nwaokolo.
