[s]Anyone can win local awards in their league, Hazard won EPL best, Messi/Ronaldo probably lost La Liga best. Meaning that season Hazard his league award, Messi/Ronaldo not their league best.

What levels everyone is the performance in continent not bamboozling players in your league[/s]

Why didnt robben pick boathand in his best 11? cheesy

Awards he did not deserve we keep telling you. 2001 was even worse and a lot more laughable. We wiped the floor with him and United home and away and I would easily name 3-5 midfielders that were better than him that season but somehow, someway Beckham ended up with 2nd.

I know better than to judge players with individual awards

Beckham wholly deserved all his awards in 1999. Don't let hatred for his celebrity lifestyle cloud your judgement. He was United's best player in the CL that season. UEFA and FIFA both seem to agree. He was smashing it left, right and centre that year.

That's a silly analogy though. Every man and His dog knows Hazard is not a patch on that duos level. Both Nesta and Pique never won the UEFA DEFENDER OF THE YEAR. There is nothing to bring up there.

I have no business with his celebrity lifestyle. The likes of Scholes and Keane were far more crucial for United than the flashy Beckham. In attack Yorke and Cole were also there. United had players that year that were better and more influential than Beckham.

True, rated only because of his looks and freekick. grin

Neither UEFA nor FIFA are infallible. I remember the year they gave Owen European player of the Year because of Liverpool's Mickey Mouse treble or in 03 where FIFA gave WPOTY to Zidane for God knows what. Or is it in 2010 where Sneijder didn't make the top 3 shortlist despite being Europe's best midfielder

Beckham was good. Just overrated and had no business finishing twice runner up for WPOTY

Scholes and Keane Were missing during the most game of the season. UEFA and FIFA both agree on one thing. Beckham was united's best player that season. They both can't be wrong at the same time. Give credit to whom it is due abeg

Who should have won EPOTY in 2001? The UCL champions that year were boasting the likes of Carsten Waanker, Salihamidzic and Sammy Kuffour.

Their only player of world class calibre was fat semi-retired Stefan Effenburg and a left back Lizarazu.

UEFA and FIFA are not infallible. I have given multiple instances of their oversight. Even Man United itself did not see Beckham as their best player. This just goes to show that awards are not and should not be the most important metric to evaluate players. Beckham did not deserve 2nd overall in 98/99. That I can argue anywhere

Elber World Class? You must be sniffing sawdust.

Mehmet Scholl I liked very much . . . in the same way I liked Juan Carlos Valeron and Robert Pires. He is not to be reckoned with the big boys.

As for Khan, Goalkeepers don't count in POTY.

There was Scholl, Elber, Lizarazu, Effenberg, Kahn, Jeremies etc who were very influential in the CL

Jens Jeremies over Michael Owen? Now I know you're deluded.

None of these guys had the profile Owen developed just off France 1998 alone. Only fat Effenberg, leftback Lizarazu and Goalkeeper Khan had the profile to compete with Owen that season.

One was fat, the other a leftback and the other a GK.

Effenberg had the best chance of the three and walked away with European Midfielder of the Year.

Exactly profile he developed in 1998 3yrs before not what he actually played on the field where McAllister outperformed him

In the final Liverpool scored 5 goals and Owen their profile striker scored an awesome zero goal

Effenberg was fat yet he won UEFA club footballer of the year over the slim and fit ones which includes Michael Owen but suddenly when it came to Balon dor he was best

FIFA award Owen didnt even make top 5 and Effenberg didnt even make top 10

This shows how useless and inconsistent these awards are. The only verifiable thing is how you performed on the field

Tery came from the birth place of football and failed to make even a world cup semi or Euro cup semi

When they ask Terry what he won in his career, he will show them he won Robben list Craigslist, Angieslist, Dinholist

Terry a player who is only relevant in lists and in polls never on the field when it matters

You are a confirmed mugu and fully certified. How was Elber one of the most dangerous forwards in Europe not world class? Iwa omugo e o de face cap

Scholl was easily one of the best midfielders in Europe circa 99-01. You couldn't possibly know this that's why you would laughably list him with Valeron and Pires. You have a long way to go

Where did Kahn finish in 2002 POTY? Yet keepers aren't reckoned with. Maifren will you KIPCHOT

Only a drunkard would look at that Bayern team of 2001 and claim Effenberg and Lizarazu were the only WC players

My friend sharrap! Elber WPOTY? Why not Sonny Anderson or Mario Jardel?

Elber was a middling striker and everyone knew it. Did Elber win any domestic award in Bundesliga. . . . .yet you want to put him on the world stage?

Madrid fans would tell you about Giovane Elber and the headache he used to give them. You are a neophyte for comparing him to Jardel and Sonny goddamn Anderson.

Middling striker? Someone that was Bayern's topscorer while we were one of the strongest teams in Europe. Ori e o pe! Elber in his prime was one of the most feared strikers in Europe. Tormenting Europe's elite like Madrid and United not some random and unknown clubs in the Uefa Cup.

Do you know how many teams Sonny Anderson tormented in Europe in late 1990s

Leave matter for Matthias. Shoe get size.

Elber should go battle with Marcio Amoroso, Sonny Anderson and Jardel as to who will take the last backup role in Brazil squad. . . . not WPOTY status.

Where were the teams Sonny Anderson tormented? Did they have 3 CL titles over a 4 year span? Did Sonny Anderson win a CL? Abeg stop chatting vague megedefegede

Owen never deserved. Balon D'or in 2001. And if he were Oweninho he would not make the Brazilian squad either so mechionu with your backup narrative

When Owen was scoring against Brazil in 2002 World Cup, where was Elber? On Copacabana beach?

When Owen was tormenting Argentina in France 98, where was Elber?

Face it, that's why Owen had higher profile than Elber. When Owen was tormenting their National teams, Elber couldn't make the squad. That's the difference and that's why Elber belongs with the Ailtons, Amorosos, Andersons and Jardels, not in WPOTY reckoning.

Not saying he's not a good player but if your own country don't reckon you to be in their top 23 players, why should the rest of the World?

We are talking of what happened in 2001 you are bringing up one of goals scored in 98 and 2002. What is the correlation? Are you using?

How many CL titles did Ailton, Jardel and Amoroso win? Do you even peruse what you write?

What kind of burukutu analysis is this? Elber competing with Ronaldo, Rivaldo. Owen competing with Heskey, Kevin Phillips. How won't Owen have a higher profile considering the mediocre players ahead of him?
